As far as the us budget is concerned, resources are unlimited.

hey what are the loving chances that if we weren't being robbed by every single military contract that we could slash the military budget and still like... not really change all that much? I'm not saying we shouldn't change basically everything about our FP, I'm saying that the MIC is a disgusting parasite that if we actually paid for what we get we might halve our bloated defense spending just because so much of it is grift

Do you guys think that Democrats will realize that Republicans will paint all of them as far left socialists like AOC regardless of their individual stated positions so they lose nothing by actually embracing and running on those popular leftist policies?

You seem to be making the assumption that mainstream Democrats actually want leftist policy, and were only running as centrists to win elections. In fact, they are ideologically centrist, and would rather lose elections than shift their platform.

They oppose those policies. Not because it's politically pragmatic to. Not (in total) because their donors pay them to. They just think those policies are wrong and fiscally irresponsible because they are conservatives. They defend the status quo and fear change...because that is what conservatives do. They are conservatives.

I listened to the latest Citations Needed, and they had on Thomas Frank, and I wanted to check if I'm grasping his argument correctly. He said that one of the big reasons for why the Democrats stopped being the working man's party (or at least, even less so than they already were) was that in the period 1968-1972, the Democrats, or at least what would become the McGovern faction, was running against the Vietnam War, but organized labor like the AFL-CIO under George Meany was in support of the war, and the Democrats decided to abandon them in order to run on that anti-war plank, but it set off an arc that would only propel the party into becoming this "professional, upper-crust, technocratic" party. Is that roughly accurate?
