Since you're the only person here interested in Bedlamdan's continued presence in tradgames maybe you should tell him to quit making GBS threads up every thread he posts in and maybe people won't keep telling him to gently caress off, and also he might get banned less. Or he could find another forum to hang out on since half his posts are snide jabs at other posters, the forum in general, and whatever else he has a bug up his rear end about.

I posted why I thought Consentacle was a bad idea outside of the one niche context everyone was trying to justify it with, and then made one lame joke about the stereotype that tradgames nerds probably wouldn't actually have boyfriends/girlfriends to actually make Consentacle only marginally less awkward.

I don't think it's on me if people take it too personally, or really whether me getting banned is on you guys. I probably will get banned, but, in the long run it does keep things running!

Posters: "The fact that this card game is themed around sex means that it's incredibly niche because you can only play it with someone you're romantically involved with, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't exist"
You: "It would be really weird to play this with random friends, why would you do that, you're weird"
Posters: "gently caress off"

I reiterate, who here is romantically involved with someone, who would also be into playing some nerd's erotic card game, for whatever loving reason?

This extremely weird and highly specific niche isn't enough to justify its existence, so what the gently caress is the point of the game and why is there so much determined apologia over this horseshit?

Pretty weird how some people think a game that's intended to be used as a tool to talk about consent and communication is exclusively for people who want to gently caress tentacle monsters, but to each his own.

It's a theme game designed by someone who actually studies and teaches game design for a living, if you don't like the art or can't cope with the existence of a game about those things, just move on and stop performatively posting about how much you dislike its existence.

Look, Bedlamdan, I get that you're in a place where the idea of being playful with sex is scary and borderline incomprehensible. But I assure you, not everyone else is in that place. Apparently there's enough people who aren't to fuel a kickstarter.

So yeah, I'd play that game with my wife. I mean, I wouldn't, I don't really play board games and tentacle anything is a personal turnoff, but I can understand the appeal. Among my friends I'd say that about... half of them would be theoretically comfortable playing it with their partners. Among my acquaintances I can't say, apart from the ones in the queer and/or kink scenes, who might be willing to play it with folk from their respective scenes.

Yeah, there's so much point-missing it's slightly surreal. I've always passed up doing a Robotech F&F reading because if people think my Rifts reviews are negative, you haven't seen my opinions on Robotech. Rewatching it - I just finished Macross last night - only pins home just divergent it is from the actual show. It's the game they wished the show was like. It's not quite as jarring as something like Prime Directive, but it's a similar take where it focuses on the toyetic military aspects and nothing else.

The fact that the first published adventure - Ghost Ship - is essentially a dungeon crawl (with a Zentraedi ship as the dungeon in question) says quite a bit about the game line.

As someone who watches the entirety of Robotech in the last couple months for TRPG research purposes (not the best idea) pretty much agreed entirely. Well, other than the Masters/Southern Cross books which at least have some value in giving a semi-coherent explanation for what the heck is going on in Southern Cross, even if it's Kevin Siembieda villainy as heck. (Jeez Southern Cross is both boring and impenetrably nonsensical.)

New Generation/MOSPAEDA may be not as good as Macross, but it does work bizarrely as an anime adaptation of Heart of Darkness with whatever Admiral Hunter's up to in space and Scott's unyielding drive to follow him and trash several cities in the way. (Also Lancer who is accidentally an awesome genderfluid rock star/rebel mech pilot, with surprisingly few terrible reactions from the rest of the cast especially compared to vanilla MOSPAEDA.) A proper Robotech RPG needs some kind of RP compel mechanic though, nothing else explains Rick Hunter-style behavior.

Ghost Ship even has giant rats. It's probably the only cute part, where a Zentraedi scientist is trying to upsize Earthly animals as a biological weapon. It doesn't work out, of course. But still! Giant rats! How more dungeoney can you get? Southern Cross... I don't know if I'll watch that, but I understand it was cancelled about twelve to thirteen episodes early since it bombed even in Japan, which probably explains a lot.

But yeah, Hunter / Hikaru has an amazing talent for bad and awful decisions. I realized partway through that Max is the big major hero who wins all the things and Hikaru just happens to be the protagonist.

The most "amazing" Palladium Robotech RPG avenue is Lancer's Rockers, which is where finally by the time of MOSPAEDA KS decided to include mechanics for music... with "instrumecha" that are keytar controlled sonic cannons or such. Way to miss the point. The Kevin Long art is hilarious.

Let me sum up Southern Cross like this: Important information to understanding the plot can only be found for the original anime on its DVD case liner notes released approximately 20-years later. Characters are shown on exploding ships onscreen and then show up later with no explanation as to how they are alive. Endless footage of human grunts unrelated to the main cast human wave attacking the aliens is a good chunk of the middle of the series. By the end of it Carl Macek in the Robotech adaptation is openly snarking in the script about how little Southern Cross makes sense, and when Carl Macek is throwing shade about your writing quality and has a point...

All I'm going to say is that the same person in the case of Rick Hunter who's completely incapable of not cheating on a relationship and flipping his idea of who he's certainly going out with for real three times in a row abruptly (he is awful) didn't especially surprise me when they somehow got the entire Zentraedi killed off and were Zapp Branniganing the Invid with wave after wave of his own men without the device he was already developing to not make it a death mission. (All while never being shown onscreen clearly because Marlon Brando showed up on set overweight and without reading the script there's obviously footage to use for him.)
