Using builds from that site let me breeze through a lot of the game. Mesmer 4 life

That may be true. I've shifted most of my time in games like WoW to just having a board game night once a month with friends. Recently I started a D&D campaign for a few friends as well.

I always enjoyed the social aspect of the game more than anything since even when I was younger, I just couldn't commit to 4 hour raids three nights a week

i mean kamiya just tweets random poo poo and then gets frustrated when people scream things at him that he's already answered or that he doesn't remotely care about. his tweets about his experiences working on resident evil 2 and his thoughts on other people in the industry he's worked can legit be pretty interesting

i think he also tends to get a lot more bullshit from english twitter cause that seems to be the side he's always more frustrated with

the cool thing about gw1 is that it's trivial to change anything and everything about your character at any given moment! you can reassign your stats and pick different skills and even change your secondary class in literally any town

gw1 rules and it's so so much better than the sequel

One thing I have to give GW2 credit for is that the way ArenaNet implemented mounts is extremely impressive. You gain four mounts over the course of going through the Path of Fire expansion zones, and another one in a post-story quest, and now they added a sixth in a patch. And all of the mounts are different. Each one moves differently, with different speed and handling, and each one has a unique ability that lets you clear obstacles in the world and access new areas. They also did a great job of animating the mounts. Unlike most MMOs, it doesn't feel like you're controlling your normal character and just moving faster. When you're on a mount, you have different acceleration, a turning radius, etc., and it's all animated beautifully.

It's an extremely cool system and makes mounts in every other MMO look totally phoned in. It's just too bad most of the rest of the game is completely lifeless at this point.

i really wanted gw2 to be a sequel to the first game and it just really isn't. it went so far from the original design that it might as well be a whole new game at this point.

sometimes i go back and play some gw1 even though i've done literally everything there is to do in it.

There are raids now and tanking and healing. Well, tanking isn't viable in every encounter, but it's still a strategy in some of them. Also there's still no real threat system. Enemies have specific rules for who they target but for the most part they go after whoever has the highest Toughness score, which means that keeping threat is a mostly passive thing. It's... it's not super well-designed.

The other problem is that there's exactly one class/spec that's accepted as a tank (Mesmers with the Chronomancer elite spec) and only a couple who are accepted as healers (Rangers with the Druid elite spec are the gold standard) so it really locks down raid team comps in a bad way. It doesn't help that the buff support that is extremely important is also totally dominated by Chronomancers and Warriors with nobody else being able to approach what they can do.

Chronomancer is my favorite build in the game but it either needs to take a hit in its support or tanking ability because right now it's just pretty much the only build that can tank while also doing another job (being the ultimate buff-bot).

TERA is kind of this and is pretty fun but doesn't have much longevity, I got bored despite the combat system after a few hours of playing.

It's free to play though so you should give it a try, you may enjoy it. No idea how dead it is nowadays though.

Apparently Black Desert's combat is pretty fun but from what I can see everything else about it is a grindy hellscape so I can't exactly recommend it

There's also Elder Scrolls Online where the combat is basically on par with a single-player RPG, but that single-player RPG is Skyrim so that's not exactly praise.

ESO is a competent single player experience set in Tamriel, if that's what you want, but it's just too drat long to be good for that imo. I got like 80 hours in and was just sorta done with it. I wasn't even max level yet.

This is such whiny bullshit. There's no law that mandates you need to have a twitter. Its literally entirely on you to run one. Furthermore, why the gently caress is she venting in a public space if she doesn't want anyone to actually respond to her? Just keep it to yourself and your close friends. Throwing this stuff out into the open and then complaining that people respond to it is baffling.

This is the thing that gets me, because they have so much potential to be good, but every developer that makes an MMO just goes with the laziest poo poo and it really sucks. Almost all of them are just Everquest/WoW clones with some extra bells and whistles, and while that can be great sometimes like FFXIV it's still such a narrow design space.

And then the few that do have new/interesting ideas get handled really badly and undermarketed and the devs gently caress everything up and they die. See: Planetside.

MMOs can be fun in small doses IMO, but I've never really been able to get into MMO endgame treadmills, at least not since high school and that was a long time ago.

Like I'm probably going to jump back into WoW and gently caress around for a bit when the new expansion hits because leveling through expansion zones once or twice is generally pretty fun, as is running some dungeons with people. But I'll probably burn out after a month, maybe two if it's really really good, and that's fine by me.
