One of my favorite missions in MW4 is super early in the game where after you've ambushed two convoys one of them ambushes you instead and the mission goes one of two ways. 1. Run like hell 2. Defeat your would be ambushers, who brought several PPC Carriers, Catapults, and a Mauler against your rinky-dink lance of Owens, Hellhounds, and Chimeras. Option 2 is obviously the way to go because LRMs are hilariously broken. MWO is the only game in the Battletech series I've played where LRMs are mediocre.

I'm pretty sure that was the game where LRMs would home in on the target if you fired the second the cross hairs turned red, vs other games where it took several seconds. Nah, LRMs have a lock time in MW4 as well. Streak SRMs on the other hand behave the way you said.

(Yes, I know it's game over in the latter case, but that's hardly an in-game matter.) For that matter, there's nothing beyond battle difficulty stopping you from just going full merc and ignoring the next campaign mission for 20-30 years.

Multiplayer is güd! Here's my First Matches Trip Report. Before I ever set foot in the lobby, I played around in the Mechlab trying to build my ideal Lance for every category. It was weird getting used to CBills (not tonnage) being the limiting factor, and I struggled to find the right combination of Mech prices. Eventually I settled on a Tanker/Tanker/Sniper/LRM Boat combo of 2x Thunderbolt (AC/20, SRM6), a Blackjack (2x AC/5s), and a Centurion (2x LRM-15s, LRM-10) for the 25mil Class. It performed surprisingly well! First Match: Canyon. Opponent was running 2x Stalkers and 2x Locusts, using the Locusts as spotters and bodyguards while the Stalkers rained LRMs. He claimed that central plateau before I even saw him, and got to take a zillion potshots before I scrambled my Thunderbolts into range. He FF'd one into oblivion right as she was closing, but left one of the Stalkers exposed at the edge of the plateau. I was able to shave off his evasion with my Blackjack/Cent, and use the Fury from their kill to leg it down. So I jump my Bolt up to start meleeing, he jumps his other Stalker off, and has his Locusts DFA me. Luckily I've got Ozone in the Bolt, so Bulwark saves him from most of the damage. Between a few more AC/20 hits, supported by my Blackjack (now on the opposite hill) and my Cent, I manage to take out the limping Stalker and one Locust. After that, it was just mop up. Second Match: Crater. Opponent running a Shadowhawk, Firestarter, and 2x LRM Jaegermechs. Similar scramble to close distance, but he was better about maneuvering his spotters to keep them alive (and me focused on them). However, he kept his Jaegers so far back I was able to stay out of their ideal range. The match was me chasing his Hawk and Firestarter around while we both dealt with the ridiculous heat. I lost a Bolt again and took massive damage on all my other units, but finally managed to nail both spotters within a round of each other. (Thanks, Breaching Shot!) "Ok, now time to deal with the real threat," I think. Then his Big Bad Jaegermechs walk into view... He was a pretty good sport about it, and we both learned an important lesson about playing with explosives on the Moon. Well, that's my story. Try Multiplayer guys! rocketrobot posted:That's amazing. It's also why I don't use bots with arm-mounted BFGs. I'm looking at you, Enforcer. I don't think the game applies the tabletop advantage of arm mounted weapons, which was to give you the option of a wider field of fire (since the mech could torso twist then extend its outer arm sideways). There were also mechs that could flip their arms completely backward allowing them to fire their arm mounted weapons directly behind them. Both of these types of tactical advantages made up for the vulnerability of having a weapon in the arms.

You do have a wider cone of fire with arm weapons, too. At least it seems to get narrower if you've lost both arms.

Like, even if you want to get hung up on the fact that the only pilots with starting skills are female, why is that the solution? Why not edit Dekker and Medusa so one has Evasive and the other has Sensor Lock. Then at least you have one pilot with each skill, so you can check them all out. You can even lie and pretend it's not about your hangups about women.

peer posted:"yet another glaring dig at us males" or "slightly sexist and derogertory" would both be good thread titles I mean, he raises a fair point. I certainly don't want to get de-Roger'd. In better mod news, discovered this mod while resetting up LongWarrior (sandbox + random start + more expenses and harder salvage) which sounds pretty good. Yet to run one of these yet due to some mods bugging out, but the whole 'take a contract for X months for Y money' matches better with canon BT, and seems completely functional. https://www.nexusmods.com/battletech/mods/254
