The Congress feels like two movies mashed up into one, but goddamn I loved that scanning scene.

Is that one of those mocap things like with that Japanese youtube person (who has a broadcast TV show now on NHK I guess?)?

E: Wait, it's from the official Barbie youtube account. Whoa.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTmrCqbfjH4

This is better than 99% of IRL youtubers.

E2: Man, they got shittier as time went on. That above one about depression was from 2016. This one is from Feb 2017:

This one is from July 2017:

You can see that they started skimping on lighting or rendering time or something. And... this one was published yesterday.

It definitely is one of those mocap things; I would assume that the seeming decrease in quality is a result of a change in hardware and/or software to allow for a greater range of capture than "sitting in a chair in front of the computer," but I'm not going to sit through 63 episodes of Barbie Vlogs to find out for sure.

I'm surprised someone who works in animation would describe that as good character animation. Makes me nervous that animators are going to get replaced by that kind of technology and no one will really care.

well there's no way it could replace animators wrt 2D animation

we just need 2D animation to be... popular again...

Yeah, in the US at least 2D animation is mostly just reserved for TV nowadays. Which is kind of a shame to be honest.

I was actually thinking of web shows TBH, cause there's a fair mix of 2D and 3D TV shows but web exclusives tend towards 2D almost entirely.

Anyway, I like Hotel Transylvania 3, those movie are always pretty fun and entertaining to watch.

Now there's talk of bringing back Rugrats with both a new series and a new movie. The problem is, someone to make the movie live action/CGI because gently caress anything beyond name recognition:

Viacom is bringing Rugrats back to both the big and small screens.

The media conglomerate on Monday announced that it is reviving the children's television series for a 26-episode greenlight at cable network Nickelodeon as well as a new live-action feature film featuring CGI characters for Paramount Players.

The new series will involve the original creators, so that might torn out decently. Though it would only serve to further illustrate why their art style doesn't belong in CGI.

If it isn’t the proper wiggly 90s animation what’s the point?

It probably wouldn't be that hard to get most of the voice actors back at least (Christine Cavanaugh left the show prior to her death and was replaced with Nancy Cartwright).

Rugrats is such a time capsule that I feel like it's difficult to just bring back. Like most of the parents are firmly planted in 1992.

I shot myself in the foot at Dreamworks over this.

"Hey there's this experimental feature in development, want to join it? It's a hybrid half 2D traditional, half 3d piece and needs a bunch of unique problems figured out.. or you can go onto Dragons 2."

I'll go to that 2d/3d project!

*half a year later*

"Hey there's a 9 AM meeting! Mandatory! Full crew!"

"Who the hell schedules a 9AM meeting?"

*cold stare*

"Ohhhhhhhh poo poo"

*multiple projects canceled, layoffs ensue*

I'd probably still be at DWA if I picked the safe project :)

Oh well.
