I wasn't sure exactly what spec Suzuki's new Jinmy was going to be, but they've done it right. Ladder chassis, coil-sprung live axles front and rear, and a proper transfer box. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoBgFH7-lgg http://www.suzuki.co.jp/car/jimny_sierra/performance_eco/ InitialDave fucked around with this message at 11:34 on Jul 22, 2018 |

I've been thinking a lot lately about "future classics" and what current, regular cars would actually be exciting enough to want to buy in the future. This Jimny is everything I want I'm excited for 2043 when I can finally get one E: I can math

Goddamn I love how Icelanders do their heavy duty stuff. I don't know what it is about their roads that mandate such enormous tires (this isn't the biggest I've seen, just the best snap so far) but I love them for it. I guess for river crossing or staying on top of snow? Off roading is illegal here and while the roads do get lovely, they aren't rock crawling adventures.

The new Jimny is super rad and I want one. Those of us in the US tho can get the early 90s ones which the new one is based off of stylistically. Take what we can get, you know?

No, I mean, I don't give a rat's rear end about GMC, so I thought the Jimmy was always a Suzuki and they were just weird for a few years. Like, this is some Berenstein Bears alternate reality poo poo. My friend had a Jimny (that I called a Jimmy) that we bombed around high school in. What the gently caress.

On the topic of Iceland and Jimnys, these are all over the place and even if it's not the most aesthetically pleasing body I want one because they're so tiny in person and small cars rock. You can get maybe two hike packs in the back. If you squeeze a bit.

I love the Jimny. I've gone off-roading with a couple back when I used to pretend to be a motoring journalist, and used my long-termer to recover a stranded Hilux from a muddy embankment in pouring rain. My mom currently has one as her pet hauler and loves it. Irish pricing, tax and insurance permitting, I'll look at getting one of the new ones in a year or two. If I'm going to have to drive slowly I might as well do it in something that's slow, fun, and practical.

I went to pick up a crib from someone on offerup this past Sunday, and they had this beautiful monstrosity parked in the driveway: He just got back from a rally in Oregon called The Gambler 500, which, best I can tell is an event where you just show up in a $500 car ready for off-road shenanigans. Looks fun as hell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBNJV8yYg4Y They're all over the US, too, check out their forums for regional stuff.

Late '80s - early '90s Olds Cutlass Supreme and the Toronado come to mind, or, for Buick, the Riviera. Jesus. My brain barely operates fast enough to *watch* that, let alone to actually do it.
