It seems like a better idea would be to keep white supremacists away from the protest, but what do I know?

Yeah, but I doubt the city is going to pull the PPB from the area.

If someone gets a clean 50%+1 in WA's jungle primary, is there still a general election? I assume so but there's a ton of seemingly pointless two-person races on my ballot

Fear is the glue that holds society together. It's what makes people suppress their worst impulses. Fear is power.

And at the end of fear, oblivion.

The timbers soccer team avoided "public financing" of the improvements at Beaver Stadium but only because they dont get taxed on the seats for some time period. Since they're renting I guess it's the lesser evil, but the fact a Paulson is getting a tax break of any kind is galling to me.

The Oldest Man

Maybe chill out a moment and read the article. They're not even posturing as if they'd leave, just saying they'd prefer a 5 year lease instead if public funding doesn't materialize.

They're still attempting to extort public funds for their (highly profitable) private enterprise. gently caress them for that.

It's fine, I'm sure the county council is just as spineless as the city council.

"You're gunna break it!"

Ehhh, it's actually not terrible reporting from the times for once, and it doesn't sound like the funding actually comes from a tax increase. I'd rather not fund private profits over literally anything else, but they are paying rent, and contributing over 200 mill themselves to get similar work done.

I'd rather keep the stadium current than having it turn into another Key Arena.

Note that I have been to one baseball game in the past 20 years, I'm just thinking of this from a public asset maintenance perspective.

I'm just going to note that contrary to conventional wisdom, government can do more than one thing at a time.

Also lets start a Jeff Bezos tax, he has to pay into a housing fund for each state for a % of what he spends on Blue Origin since he's so uninspired by having a crimes against humanity level of money.

Solving real problems is way less fun than defining a new problem ("we need to be a multiplanet species!!") that is conveniently best served by building rocket ships to play around with and launch you and all your rich friends to space on.

This is pretty much zero-sum:. We can put this money towards housing, or we can put it towards the stadium. Though, if they're willing to double the tax, fine, let's do both.

This may not be a compelling argument to someone whom is so broke brained they see leaving the cradle of humanity as a more viable option than a living wage. These idiots aren't dreamers despite what their PR says.

Also the Mariners organization should not be the recipient of 180 million taxpayer dollars no matter what. Public subsidy of Major League sports of any kind is a travesty and should be expressly forbidden by law.

It should be noted that the Mariners were basically ready to move out of the city, then they went on their miraculous run in 1995 which turned the tide of moral support for the team to keep them in town.
