Cerebral Bore posted:If that happens you can expect a huge swathe of the FBPE crowd to suddenly realize that it's actually very important to respect the referendum and Brexit must go ahead. Nah most of them will say they'll never vote Labour until the anti-Semitism is cleared out and the others will just stop posting. While there are some really loving poo poo anti-semites hanging around Labour and in the labour movement it's really rare for them to remain influential figures actually doing things without being reported to the disciplinary committees and properly booted out (Livingstone a terrible stain for Labour to be sure). Anti-Semitism has become the go-to item for people who never want to vote for Corbyn but don't have the courage to try and argue against what he's standing for such as from some really loving terrible people who have voted Labour in the past but recently said things like 'I guess I'm really a lib dem at heart' post-Corbyn and want to be able to justify why they're voting Tory in the next election (the only other facebook posts I see about this are proper socialists discussing the IHRA definitions and their limitations in limiting cases of anti-Semitism in other countries and how it gets used to attack organisations calling for BDS).

When I had polyarthralgia last year, my parents were insisting I go to A&E. My logic of "It's not an Accident or an Emergency" had to be repeated 3-4 times each week. Yeah, it was painful and very limiting, but I ate a crapload of Naproxen, munched some antibiotics when I got hit with a chest infection, and after 3 weeks I could go back to work. Sometimes you just get ill. Treating everything as if it's pancreatic cancer isn't helpful for anyone.

Didn't see this linked: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...s-a8471616.html Universal Income seems like a loving great idea, simplifies the system and elevates the baseline. I should read more about it, as I would think for one thing it would get a lot of people off the streets, especially if the housing market gets fixed too.

Been doing some twitter shitposting on various jc/anti semitism things and out of curiosity I started poking around the timelines of those pushing the line. Out of 8 that I have looked at, 7 were dedicated accounts- "free tommeh, listen to this lauren southern podcast, heres a rabbi on why corbyn is the next hitler and next up 10 reasons why the muslim threat needs to be eliminated". Of those 7, 2 or 3 don't really do conversation much- mainly likes or retweets, but the others definitely are piloted at least some of the time. I'm sure this isn't new to most posters here who poo poo up the twitters and I have seen this poo poo before but there seems to be a really massive push on this. I wish I had some more time to get on a desktop and start profile trawling more because doing in on phone is painful.

You'll have to forgive the stream of posting from me here but we have what, 3 - 4 months worth of consistent calls and notices of a huge problem with Islamophobia in the tory party and I have yet to see a single headline, report or even tweet from the BBC's news team about it. Yet the tiniest hint of anti-semitism is broadcast from the loving rafters. I'm expecting Kuensberg to have a full page article in the next 20 minutes.

I’m not concerned, the right wing are dreadful at modern campaigning and the press has lost it’s grip. What they are all doing is yelling in an echo chamber. The anti-Semitic stuff isn’t designed to convince the Jews, those involved were always going to vote Tory, it’s designed to convince the people the Tories call “snowflakes” that Corbyn is a bad person and it’s fairly obvious from the polling and the internet that they either aren’t buying it, or are looking at all of this and going “well maybe we shouldn’t say it’s the right of Israel to bomb Palestinians and they should be called out on it” How many people out there won’t openly commit to an opinion on Israel because it’s always been like the Irish Troubles in that anything you say will piss someone off so it’s best to keep quiet? I bet a lot of those people have actually been both educated and convinced that Israel should really stop killing civilians by all of this now.

A lot of these batshit insane policies are probably going to end up being seriously discussed in parlement by a Tory party that will be three line whipped to vote for them. The reality is that we won’t be able to check everything coming in because the vets and customs officials/buildings needed don’t exist, so in reality we won’t be able to do any checks, so in order for us to get food in the shops and not have it all rot in the great Dover lorry park we won’t be able do any at all.

Plus we already know what a UBS might look like. The NHS, when funded and run properly, is one. Corbyn's NES would be another example (and better than Ed's ZX81). Free at the point of use bus travel for everyone, universal internet provision, etc. are other places you could go with that, and the economy and workers would benefit through fiscal multipliers and job integration.

This is true now, it would t have been 5/10 years ago. There are plenty of well-off, culturally conservative, small busines owners who currently overwhelmingly vote labour because they they come from an ethnic minority, and Labour are the anti-racist party. Just like those in similar circumstances from a Jewish background used to. Turning that natural advantage into ‘ both sides are equally bad, best to keep out of it’ is a pretty big win for team Tory.
