One incredibly drunk night my friends and I tried to make the worst drinks we could to see if we could get each other to throw up. My brother in law made me spiced rum mixed with baby formula and called it "The Fountain of Youth." It wasn't that bad as far as a I remember.

I have friends who started reading the books in High School, went to university, got married, had a couple of kids, and are now thinking of introducing their (now) high school aged kids to this never-to-be-finished series.

The guy who introduced me to to the books (in 2010) was born in 1980. He was 16 when AGOT came out. (He was 17 when he read AGOT.) He was 18 when ACOK came out. He was 20 when ASOS came out. He was 21 when he joined the navy. He was 25 when AFFC came out. He was 25 when he was honorably discharged. He was 26 when he married. He was 27 when he had a child. He was 30 when he had his second son. He was 31 when ADWD came out. He was 36 when he had his third son. He is 38. He wants his son to read the books in 2 years or so, "when he's old enough". In 2 years there won't be a 6th book. There never will be. Stephen King published 2 books while I wrote this.

kcroy posted:Matrix was an awesome movie. Just curious, does anyone under the age of 45 like Commando? I can't imagine a younger person putting that on their top 10 list. I don't know if this is indicative of anything, but back in college my friends and I used to always get drunk at our college apartment and watch Conan and Commando back to back. This was like 2006-2008 so a good 20+ years after those movies came out. And here we are, a bunch of 19-21 year olds getting drunk and endlessly quoting those movies to each other like they had just come out. Then again, we were all social outcasts that bonded together starting in high school over 80s culture, video games, and Magic. We still end up watching Commando/Conan/Die Hard in the background when we do our annual Christmas LANs. Only difference is there is far less drinking now (and less shenanigans in general), and our wives all think we are idiots when we start quoting the films.

I can’t speak for the other films, but I watched Die Hard for the first time ever on Christmas Eve of 2015 (as one should, because it’s a Christmas Movie), and I very much enjoyed it and wasn’t taken out of the action at all by anything dated about it because it still holds up. Though my enjoyment of it was ruined post-facto, however, because Alan Rickman died about a month later kicking off the Great Celebrity Reaping of 2016, and I’ve been reluctant to watch it ever since.

The 2016 celebrity reaping opened with Bowie and Alan Rickman, and ended with everyone thinking "aww man, Carrie Fisher, this can't get any sadder" and then 3 days later her mother died. 2016 was loving miserable.
