Yeah? Is there another term for it? Its not an S, or an X. I don't have a Kinect but I think there is a spot for it on the back. It won't do 5ghz AC, just A/N, etc.

I just recently picked up an Xbox One S, mostly for 4K Blu Rays and backwards compatibility. I never really played anything from the 360's library, so I'm making my way through all the Halos and Gears of Wars. As far as backwards compatibility announcements, do more games become available at a steady clip, or is it pretty random and too far in between? I've got more than enough to keep me busy until the next batch, but watching videos on 360 exclusives made me realize there's a lot still left to become compatible. Also, as far as controller rechargeable batteries go, are there any that are goon recommended? Or will most on Amazon suffice?

Get the amazon basics battery.

Or for the traditional: eneloops.

For backwards compatibility they release almost a new game every week. Last week saw three games added. It's probably an average of two games a week.

Eneloop rechargeable AA's are often recommended. Or if you want one specifically made for the controller that you won't need to swap out, the only decent choice is Microsoft's official Play and Charge battery. The third-party ones are bad (edit: I have no experience of AmazonBasic, so maybe it's an exception).

I see maybe 3 added to BC every two weeks or so, some of them get big press releases but I mainly notice just be watching this list.

The newest ones are always shown at the top.

I came across this shortly after asking, and I just assumed the newest games were shown at the top. Thanks for the battery recommendations everyone.

If I'm not a fan of racing sims, will I enjoy the Forza Horizon games? Or are they arcadey enough to enjoy? I'm browsing through the Xbone exclusives list and I completely forgot about Ori and Sunset Overdrive.

forza horizon 3 is the best arcade racer since burnout paradise. of particular note is the hot wheels dlc, which almost makes the game feel like a sorta open-world san francisco rush.

horizon 2 is free with gold right now but tbh i found the map to be kinda lame, especially compared with horizon 3 and hell even compared to the first horizon for 360. but you could always download it to see if you like the driving physics since they're basically the same in fh3.

I haven't played the previous ones, but Forza Horizon 3 is superb and definitely one of my favourites on the system. It's open world and definitely arcadey enough. The reward system and constant positive reinforcement the game gives you will make you feel good, even if you've had a lovely day. :)

I didn't mind Sunset Overdrive which I got for free in GwG awhile back. It can take some practice to play properly because you have to be able to combo parkour moves together while shooting enemies, or your weapons won't be as effective.

Visually it's nice but the gameplay can get a bit repetitive and a lot of the fourth wall jokes fall flat. Also the multiplayer is pretty dead so I'd only buy it if I could get it cheap.

Edit: also I've been using the same Play and Charge kit for like four years now and it's still going strong, so I can recommend that too.

Meh. Does the Original Xbox One (OGXBONE?) have enough USB bandwidth for an external SSD to make that much difference?

Or should I wait until I get that 4k and just go all in with an XBOXNXNXNXNX

Edit: And do I need an Xbox special SSD or just any ol' external SSD?

If you were looking to upgrade to an X might not be a bad time to do it, Gamestop have $200 trade in for an original Xbox One (the third Xbox yadayada). So $300 to upgrade which is in the vicinity of what a 1TB SSD is going to cost you most likely.
https://www.gamestop.com/trade

Remember loading isn't just the speed of the drive, there's also decompressing textures and other stuff going on that an X is going to make faster, on the level of having upgraded to an SSD. And that's before you take everything else into account.

Yeah, but I can get a Crucial 250gb & enclosure (Amazon Basics) for ~75 bucks delivered. That's pretty affordable if it makes a big difference. I pretty much only play ~3 games, so I don't need TBs of space at the moment.

EDIT: Adata 256 for 70, SandDisk 250 for 59, or PNY 240 for 70.

I jumped on the Xbox and my total installed games was maybe 200 gig, so going for 500 doesn't seem worth it.

EDIT2: Just bough the Adata SD600 in 256, Wirecutter had a decent review of it and for 70 bucks it was an easy choice.

I pretty much only play the latest COD, GTA, and NHL games. I'm old and busy, so I don't have a library of any size. Add PUBG to that list and you have all the installed games, total, on my Xbox.

I'll most likely grab an X this Christmas when I upgrade the living room TV to 4k. I figure they'll discount the price for the holidays.

Interesting...
Question about game transferring and stuff...

I'm buying an Xbox One S second-hand, and the seller says I can have the games that are on the hard drive. How does it work? I see that there's an online license and an offline one, and you can set a console as a "Home Console" etc... what are the steps I and the seller need to take to ensure I can play the games that are on the hard drive?

I don't think there's a "safe" way to do this in the sense of guaranteeing you can keep the games forever. Basically if the console is set as the "home" console for the purchasing account, the games will work with any account. Otherwise the purchasing account has to always be signed in to XBL. But if the original owner resets his account to reacquire access then that's it that's all for you.

Zat
Jan 16, 2008

I wouldn't pay a single penny extra for having digital games come with the console, even if the original owner went all the way and gave you their MS account password and stuff; hell, even if they gave you the email account associated with it.

No matter what they do, there will always be ways for them to get the ownership of the account back or else get you banned if they feel like it.

I think the US is dumb for not using Celsius
The only extra amount that console is worth is whatever you think the saved bandwidth of downloading those games is worth. Unless you buy those games, you don't own them and you could lose access at any time.

I get it. The seller does seem to be willing to work with me though, and I'll take it as a bonus rather than as a given. I don't need to play the games forever.

He said he could leave his account on there, and change the login details to Xbox Live for himself so I don't have access. Would that work?

It would work if he first sets it as his home console, and then will stop working once he resets which console is his home Xbox (and possibly if he does other things with the account, not sure). You'll have to keep his account on there, too.

Don't pay anything besides what a blank xbox is worth. He can leave his account and the games on there if he wants, but they are worth zero dollars extra to you.

Quoting myself here. Despite what people say about this dead gay console on this dead gay forum, it feels like a nice upgrade. Loading in COD noticeably improved and PUBG felt a little bit better in play, but loading into the lobby was quicker.

Wish I had known this was an option, I would've done it months ago. God, I can only imagine how much less poo poo I would've dealt with on the COD beta with it last weekend.

I'm actually enjoying Hitman on X. On PS4 I found the movement way too clunky/unresponsive.

Although the game stresses me out and I like chill games for the most part. Life is for stress, games are for fun.

GTA V also has a big boost in responsiveness, although still no X patch...
