Turnbull is hosed.

Only 7 libs need to switch and dutton siezes power.

Abbott had a greater lead versus an empty chair and still got knocked off.

Call an election now, it'll take place in November at the earliest.

Probably won't happen in November because of the Victorian state election. They won't want to do it in December, January likewise isn't an option, so my money is on May.

If they hold a spill every week or so, the Libs will successfully dominate the news cycle. This is key to denying Labor publicity.

The bookies have switched up the October election odds:

Sportsbet has October the new favourite in the market, moving from $10 into $2.50 following the spill.

Malcolm Turnbull is now $1.55 to be leader at the election with Peter Dutton not ruled out on $2.55.

Another leadership spill is likely to happen at odds of $1.55, not occurring pays $2.25.

Labor have been the main benefactor from today, moving from $1.45 into $1.40 to win the election, the Coalition are out to $2.85 from $2.50.

Frantically trying to be relevant.

Over the past three years all Abbott has had is the dubious honour of being Turnbulls chief rival.

With Dutton now stepping up he slips even further into the dustbin of history and frantically has to try and find a way to be relevant to the press.

Legally they're only allowed to destroy political and personal documents.

That said, I have no loving idea what kind of oversight is in place to make sure that is the only thing that gets destroyed. I THINK they have to record any formal documentation destroyed with National Archives and can only do so after its a certain age or has run its relevant course.

Stuff like: Do you like me? [yes]/[no]. Passed under the desk during question time can be tossed.

Edit: gently caress actually, not sure if this is the same when a Minister changed though. I might have to do some researching

Firstly I would like to say thank you to my colleagues for their considerable support in the party room.

The conversations and words of encouragement that I have had with them in recent times, I am quite grateful for the support they have provided to me. I am also incredibly proud of the work that our men and women do day and night within the agencies of Home Affairs to keep Australians are safe.

It is a serious business and when we have the threats that we do to a country like ours, you do need to make tough decisions and you have to make tough decisions that are ultimately are in the best interests of all Australians.

I did that for border protection, I did it in relation to the Home Affairs portfolio. I have been on the frontbench for 14 years and have served four Liberal leaders loyally including Malcolm Turnbull. Over that period of time I have been Assistant Treasurer to Peter Costello and John Howard with whom I work quite closely and to this day I consider a mental. I have been theShadow Minister for Health and finance, I have been the health minister, the minister for sport and I have been the minister for workforce participation.

But I have most enjoy being Minister for Home Affairs because of the people who work within those agencies and the incredibly important work that they support. I am proud of the fact that I got children out of detention. We have now moved almost 400 people off Manus Island and Nauru and that is a significant achievement. I worked closely with Malcolm Turnbull to make sure we can achieve that. We closed the detention centres and we kept the boats stopped and we know that threat still exists and like no other country in the world, we have been able to deal with our migration program.
