The thing with Teddy's trade value is that while he demonstrated he was a starting caliber QB before his injury... he wasn't a particularly good one. He had an okay rookie season, then in 2015 was the 21st ranked QB by DVOA and threw all of 14 TD passes. I think this deal was perfectly great for both sides, and maybe Teddy has a Steve Young-esque career in him, but unless he develops significantly, he's in that tier of QB's that need a lot of surrounding talent to be good, which tends to get head coaches fired.

I don't get why the saints traded for a marginal QB. Why prepare for getting hosed?

Because he's still pretty good on a team that could easily end up competing for a SB this year or next, and he's a much better option filling in if Brees gets a short term injury or could even Nick Foles it up in a miracle run if everything breaks right.

And going forward, it's better to have a starting QB then not have one, a good enough QB can have you competing for the playoffs and sometimes you draft really well for a couple years, make the right moves in Free agency, and can win the Superbowl with an average QB. And you get to look at him over the next two years to determine if you want to use him as your starter going forward.

Considering Brees's age, I think all that's worth a 3rd round pick.

In the most ironic suspension ever he'll get at least 1 season (probably a ban LOL) on top of prison time. He's not rich enough to not get prison time. So 2 years min out of the league for an admittedly above average linebacker.

Has anyone else noticed "elite QB" has died off entirely now that all the 6 to 10 QBs that were "projected" to enter Rodgers-Brees-Brady-Peyton tier failed to do so? It's all talk about "franchise QB' again.

The maximum sentences on federal crimes are always 'holy poo poo!' huge and rarely sentenced that way from what I can tell.

But yeah I'd imagine he's likely to go to prison for a while.

Maybe it's because people have realized that debating "elite" tier QBs is only interesting to the kind of people who watch Stephen A. Smith.

Those guys all have 2 things in common. They have their rings and they’re all 34+. Take out Rodgers and they’re 39+.

Give Russell Wilson 4-5 more seasons of counting stats and he will be in that tier, easily. Other guys have more work to do to get to that super elite status, sure. If the marker is just “Hall of Fame good” though, I expect Roethlisberger, maybe Eli, maybe Rivers, and possibly Matt Ryan and Cam Newton will end up there too. Keep in mind Cam will probably retire with every QB rushing record in the books, including the rushing TD record by an enormous margin.

Aside from Wilson though, you’re right. No one is approaching the levels of greatness of those other guys.

We live in the era of the new young exciting QBs. I see a whole bunch of guys (Newton, Wentz, Goff, Watson, Mahomes, Luck, Carr) capable of reaching those heights. I'm supposing the media is backing down because there are more competent QBs in the league now than ever before.

Evrart Claire
Jan 11, 2008
Rodgers/Brees/Brady/Peyton were still always at the top of lists no matter what other younger QBs were doing anyway. Its mainly that second tier of QBs like Ben, Rivers, Romo that would always get leapfrogged in rankings by whatever young QB the media wanted to hype up, but no one since Rivers/Ben came into the league aside from Rodgers has even consistently been in that second tier except Wilson.

Mahomes has played in one regular season game, isn't it a bit early to annoint him?

loving  cam newton is already tied for #60 on the all time rushing TD list (with 54 TDs). He's the only QB even on the list. Aaron Rodgers is the next best with 25tds (need 26 to make the all time list).
