But they mainly do things like setting up staging areas during hurricane season. This is the State Guard:  Those guys are like weekend disaster-relief dudes. They're fine. Back during Jade Helm, Abbott ordered the State Guard to monitor the exercise, but the actual extent of it was the State Guard commander texting the U.S. military exercise commander with, like, "Hey, uh, is the exercise going on?" U.S. military guy texts back: "Yeah it's going on." State Guard replies: "M'yup okay sounds good thanks." Basically doing the bare minimum to comply with the governor's order. The Texas State Militia, on the other hand, is an uber-libertarian group of balding middle-aged gun nuts and is completely their own thing. These guys protesting in San Antonio partially came about as a split within that group. There are also various tiny little militias which is often just some guy with a Facebook page. It's pretty difficult to do "militia poo poo" in Texas because there's very little in the way of public land where you can practice drills, shooting, maneuvers and so on. There's a reason most of these groups are out west or way up north in Michigan. The dude I linked to in the SPLC article who is a sex offender? I'm not posting his name but he was/is a "lieutenant general" in the Southern Front Militia, which is a neo-Confederate group, but it basically just exists on the internet, and he stopped being invited to III%er/Patriot events when his criminal background came out. Also the "This Is Texas Freedom Force" has a related group, the Texas Defense Force (remember these guys split from the Texas State Militia for being too crazy / tolerating a felon and a Nazi). The TDF has actually modeled itself as a security company. agreed. hopefully the dude would have helped locked down the border the way lupe was supposed too. San Antonio, Eagle Pass and Del Rio and all those South Texas / Border cities are a whole different state practically and politically, and democrats need to access them in a way different from the way they access Austin and the other big cities. Seems like Beto has kinda figured it out but you wont know until Nov.
