In a speech Friday that was noteworthy primarily for its unvarnished criticism of President Trump, Obama made a passing reference to issues that could be winners for Democratic candidates. “Democrats aren't just running on good old ideas like a higher minimum wage, they're running on good new ideas like Medicare for all, giving workers seats on corporate boards, reversing the most egregious corporate tax cuts to make sure college students graduate debt-free,” he said. oh lol he certainly sounds good when out of office

Agean90 posted:I hope it does. The primarys gnma be Bernie as a frontrunner with the center tearing itself apart between 20 different centrists (avenatti will win) I did a long effort post in the demlols thread in gbs as to why I think it's for sure happening, and it breaks down like this: 1. She's continuing to travel the world giving speeches about how she'd be better than trump 2. She's continuing to raise money 3. There's a lot of support for her. LIke, a frightening amount. 4. There isn't a week that has passed since the election that she isn't featured in multiple news articles/shows. I honestly can't think of any other failed presidential candidate that didn't just slink off into the dark and disappear for a while. Grondoth posted:mine will stop working because I will kill myself Don't. Seriously. Trump is doing the same poo poo obama did, it's just that everyone's paying attention to it now because he's trump. LinYutang posted:So did Hillary Rodham Clinton There were certainly a lot of people primed to accept the message after years of fox news and talk radio, but the money was really important. Money matters less in a presidential race because the cathars get so much free exposure. When you're trying to win every state legislative, county commissioner, school board, and dogcatcher seat the the country, though, that money buys name recognition and name recognition gets wins. Money can also help with the orginazation side (though it's certainly possible to blow tons of cash on a poo poo operation). I dunno, the Tea Party movement was this odd mix of astroturfed Koch bullshit and authentic racist, reactionary zeal. I don't know if the good guys can recreate that. Our thing is bottom-up organizing, which is hard to do and susceptible to capture (or outright destruction) by elites.
