Former DILF posted:get a credit union Thirded. My former bank actually had to settle a class action for deliberately re-arranging transactions to maximize overdraft fees. I've even heard of banks that charge three figure overdraft fees which is insane , to me. I think my CU charges like $27 for overdrafts. I don't really pay any recurring or service fees for anything as long as I keep my direct deposit going to my checking. Join your local credit union and tell your bank to suck an egg.

Nah. They produced very little useful data. They tortured and killed a bunch of prisoners and got nothing out of it but we gave them immunity anyway.

I hope historians have a field day with how Fox News managed to be the most successful propaganda campaign ever. Basically everyone I know who watches that poo poo is 100 percent okay with living in a dystopian hell where companies charge for the air you breathe because TAXES ARE THEFT. Like every one of these assholes is just cool with working conditions at amazon becoming the norm because "low wages save consumers money so everyone benefits in the end." They'll gladly work in hell cages and pay out the rear end for health insurance as long as TVs are cheap.

Sydnor Jr., a close friend and education director of the US Chamber of Commerce, to write a confidential memorandum titled "Attack on the American Free Enterprise System," an anti-Communist, anti-New Deal blueprint for conservative business interests to retake America for the chamber.[13][14] It was based in part on Powell's reaction to the work of activist Ralph Nader, whose 1965 exposé on General Motors, "Unsafe at Any Speed," put a focus on the auto industry putting profit ahead of safety, which triggered the American consumer movement. Powell saw it as an undermining of Americans' faith in enterprise and another step in the slippery slope of socialism. [...] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_F._Powell_Jr.#Powell_Memorandum

It took a ton of looking because everyone just posts that picture in the context of OMG LOOK HOW BAD THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH IS!!!! when it clearly has nothing to do with that, but I found where those tires are from: https://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/18/us/18tire.html I called it, it's an artificial reef project from 1972 off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale, FL that failed miserably Apparently they cleaned it all up almost a decade ago by using military slave labor or something and calling it 'training' so that's good

g0lbez posted:Can we refrain from just posting straight up advertisements in this thread because now I want some of those and that doesn't feel right in the capitalism.png thread This is when you take a step back mentally, and think about why people make decisions with their money that ultimately hurt them in multiple ways. Having adverts in the thread is good because we can criticize how ridiculous they are (a lot of the side-by-side gendered versions of products are a good example, so are the '9/11 never forget special bargains for freedom' poo poo). Every time you see an advert for some junk and think 'wow I think I'd like one of those' you then follow that up with 'but I don't really because it's just junk and its been designed to be appealing despite being worthless'. The next step is to not buy that product or service, and that is when you pat yourself on the back. The trick from there is to make it a routine habit like brushing your teeth or regular exercise, just keep thinking about your life and the things you actually need in it. As the junk in your life decreases and you end up with things that are truly useful and meaningful your life becomes much more pleasant.
