soggybagel posted:My favorite thing about working in sports is getting access to the All 22 views. This is pure sports geek poo poo but you can see those late guys coming on or off and plays developing in interesting ways. I watched the VT-FSU game in All 22 and it was great. I love seeing plays develop in any sport and All 22 was the closest I’ve seen on TV to being there in person for that.

Mahoning posted:No one in this thread said it was a football specific problem. The ratings for last night were posted and you suddenly started arguing against a point no one was making. lmao what the heck I think when people freak out over NFL ratings specifically as if that isn't a thing that is happening for basically everything on TV, it misses the bigger picture, and also understates just how many people are still watching it relative to everything else on TV. It seems like a weird thing to fixate on, to me, that's all! Especially since it's often used to bolster weird argument about how protests are driving away viewers in droves and poo poo like that. Which yes, is not happening specifically in this thread but it's definitely happenning a lot elsewhere. Like 70 of the 100 most watched things on TV or something insane like that were football games last year MourningView fucked around with this message at 02:07 on Sep 8, 2018 |

xbilkis posted:but also Comparing single game ratings when NBA has 6x the number of games isn't exactly an apples-to-apples. edit: I think NFL viewership is doing fine, but dismissing the the fact that one sport is rising and the other isn't because one sport isn't on for 82 vs 16 regular season games isn't proving much either.

Fox just paid $3 billion for some lovely Thursday Night games. People can obsess over ratings but it's clear that to the people who matter, the NFL is insanely valuable.

I think Sky in the UK may have set some sort of record for analysts and talent in a broadcast. You have Neil Reynolds hosting, Solomon Wilcots and Rob Ryan as primary analysts, all four guys from the Around The NFL podcast as secondary analysts, two guys from PFF as tertiary analysts and Pete King popped up for a segment. It's just too many voices for a two game broadcast

FlamingLiberal posted:It’s funny to me because those original 30 didn’t even finish airing until like 2 years after that anniversary They just wanted to make documentaries and used ESPN's tendency to self mythologize to give it an overarching hook and make it more likely to get green lit. I don't think they actually cared about the anniversary beyond that. They tried to change the name after the first batch since it didn't really make sense anymore but people got mad so they went back it it.
