Groke posted:I believe there was some effort towards such a thing right after the Second World War, a missed opportunity if you ask me. Norwegian oil, Swedish industry, Danish... sausages? Whatever. It would have been an economic and political power of some significance, probably have a geopolitical role in the Cold War years sort of like a bigger and stronger Sweden. The only (very, very) minor issue with a Scandinavian union was that Denmark and Norway had experienced how Sweden behaved in terms of crisis and said "gently caress that". Funny fact: Until Stalingrad, the Swedish security police arrested more Allied spies and after, they arrested more German spies. The whole point about a military is to make a military attack costly for the attacker, not necessarily to win the war. Bringing nukes into discussion is kinda pointless, because obviously we have experienced 70+ years of different military conflicts including peer to peer conflicts with nuclear armed nations without having nukes flying.

The proposed Scandinavian pact seems pretty anti-nato, what with its ditching of overpriced junky American fighters and all. Seems like a good way of making an enemy of a second super power. Would definitely require nukes.

The obstacle, but also opportunity for uniting Scandinavia is Stockholm. It pretty much personifies what Scandinavia hates about Swedes. Everyone who isn't from sthlm hates the place on some level. Basically I think Scandinavia could be built on a anti-Stockholm platform.

Yeah. It's just not a chill place and I can't see the other nations ever accepting it being the centre of power.

I don't mind Stockholm Some of my favorite bands are from sthlm. Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed, Firespawn, Opeth, LIK, the list goes on. Gotta have that HM-2 and dugga-dugga drums (or wanky prog, in the case of Opeth).

Norway has some good naval ideas but I think the colonial/exploration idea we get is sort of useless in modern times, unless we can use it for beating Musk to colonizing Mars.

Eh, when I worked in Copenhagen, nobody gave a poo poo about Stockholm. Copenhagen/Sjalland/Skåne contains more people than Stockholm. Come to think of it, I have the same distance in time to Central Copenhagen as someone in Bromma has to central Stockholm.
