And, yeah, taken in a vacuum, it was a poor decision. But then you remember that during the revolution in Germany, the social democrats took power and hired proto-fascist veteran's groups to massacre them, killing two of their leaders (Rosa and Karl) and allowing the maintenance of capital. In fact, it's one of the biggest betrayals ever, since if Germany went red, then the Soviet Union would not have been alone and had to resort to cruel and unusual methods merely to survive. no, Stalin and the KPD absolutely deserve to be poo poo on for 'social fascism.' Hitler would have just been some failed clown that probably got gunned down in the street eventually. paving the way for a fascist to take power and then kill 30 million of your people isn't good praxis Graphic has issued a correction as of 05:07 on Sep 18, 2018 |

Jesus and the disciples also told people to give away all their possessions to the poor. Early Christianity seems to have been a form of consumption communism where they lived off the wealth of people who joined the cult until it ran out, which you can do when the world is about to end in any case. There are lots of passages in the bible that can be interpreted to mean being a christian means being communist, but they're often not interpreted that way for obvious reasons. For example there is a guy who's told to give away all his wealth, he gives away most of it and says he's done what was asked of him, and then is admonished for lying and literally gets killed by God. What often gets focused on is the lie, and not what he'd been asked to do in the first place.

There's a cornucopia of material in the bible to support a strong base for socialist/communist interpretations, which is why christian socialism and christian communism are are things. I didn't think this was unknown. And the passage against giving charity publicly isn't against charity, it's against rich assholes using charity to aggrandize themselves. See also: the german peasant's war and thomas muntzer quote:The stinking puddle from which usury, thievery and robbery arises is our lords and princes. They make all creatures their property—the fish in the water, the bird in the air, the plant in the earth must all be theirs. Then they proclaim God's commandments among the poor and say, "You shall not steal." They oppress everyone, the poor peasant, the craftsman are skinned and scraped. quote:The league at Allstedt wanted to establish this principle, Omnia sunt communia, ‘All property should be held in common’ and should be distributed to each according to his needs, as the occasion required. Any prince, count, or lord who did not want to do this, after first being warned about it, should be beheaded or hanged. Graphic has issued a correction as of 11:12 on Sep 18, 2018 |

Christ’s Birth happened well into the era following the marian reforms and the subsequent development of the Roman Empire, it’s understandable that such an era would be one of apocalyptic conflict and ostentatious wealth

The Social Democrats recently sold complete control over the public energy firm to Goldman Sachs for a pittance and have implemented some of the harshest austerity measures since the '80s. The Social Democrats changed their tune on that almost three decades ago and have been whittling away at the welfare state ever since, even when in opposition. I feel like government itself needs to be a kind of self sacrifice job. To get in you need to give up most of your private wealth or at least have it frozen/inaccessible during your time in government, and are paid a lower to middle class wage. You are also forbidden from accepting anonymous donations. To be able to serve the public you are required to live like them, but there is the ideology that a wealthier person is 'better' or more worthy of authority. If they have earned a lot of money they have surely earned our respect.

Or being shot by NKVD because your neighbour wanted to have your cupboard shelf in the communal kitchen? It's cool to laugh at capitalism and want more socialist policies enacted, or hell, even desire complete overthrow of capitalism. What is extremely uncool, however, is to be dumb enough to think that Stalinist USSR or Maoist China were some beacons of socialist ideals where things were significantly better than in capitalist states of the time. They weren't.

And not just because people died in droves in gulags at unprecedented rates (only rivaled by literal nazi death camps), but if we look at percentages, America right now has 666 (heh) prisoners per 100,000 citizens. USSR had 1200-1500 in the 1940s.
