that's a Jason Todd thing, not Dick - which hilariously DC is trying to get it so people will stop calling him Dick. You're about 70 years too late for that, DC.

It's looking more like it's just going to be an ATLA remake, which is kind of a shame as I think starting fresh with a new series might have been a better choice. But since the original creators are involved it's bound to be better than Shyamalan's take at any rate.

I'm also hoping for better effects and a racially diverse cast if possible (Tibetan or Chinese for Aang and the Air Nomads, Inuit for the Water Tribe, Japanese for the Fire Nation and Chinese for Toph, maybe a mix of Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese for the Earth Kingdom in general).

That said, a new series would be nice as well. That April Fool's joke from a long while back regarding the twin Earth Avatars would be an interesting concept to explore, plus it would be funny seeing Korra try to give advice to her successor ("Have you tried punching it? Like, really hard?").

It took me a 2nd watch of the trailer to realise the music that plays from the ‘From the makers of zootopia’ bit is a slowed down, more epic version of the same song.

So thanks to that new trailer we know that the parts that aren't dated references and brands is basically just a recycled version of the script to Toy Story 3 that Disney was planning on making without Pixar if they left when their contract ran out.

quote:

The final version of the script was written by Meet the Parents screenwriter Jim Herzfeld. It focused on Andy's Mom shipping a malfunctioning Buzz to Taiwan, where he was built, as the other toys believing where he will be fixed there. While searching on the Internet, they find out that many more Buzz Lightyear toys are malfunctioning around the world and the company has issued a massive recall. Fearing Buzz's destruction, a group of Andy's toys (Woody, Rex, Slinky, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Jessie, and Bullseye) all shipped themselves to Taiwan and venture out to rescue Buzz. At the same time, Buzz meets other toys from around the world that were once loved, but have now been recalled.

That actually sounds amazing and I hope it's true. Like, I take back everything I said, as much as I love "Be Prepared" it's worth losing if they really did change the plot that much and in that way.

As a kid I hated how the hyenas were portrayed as the "evil" species. I couldn't understand why one kind of carnivorous animal was "Noble and Just" while the other was "Wicked and Cruel" when essentially they both wanted the same thing: to be able to eat.

I wonder if my childhood anger over that injustice was the start of me becoming a socialist as an adult....

If we want to go all animal planet on it and make things accurate, Mufasa and Scar should be best buds who team up to exile teen Simba to some outlaying scrub territory. He grows up there, teams up with another nomad and then returns home to murder his father and uncle and take over the harem full of his sisters, cousins, etc. :colbert:

Why stop there? Make all of the female hyenas bigger and stronger than the males, and have them treat the males like poo poo as they regard them as inherently of lesser worth; in a hyena pack, even the best and strongest of the males is considered lower in the social hierarchy than the weakest female.

And also make the hyenas the actual good guys who put in the work and the time to hunt until some rear end in a top hat lion shows up and steals their kill.

Ignoring that Bilby there is Dreamworks and not Disney, I have to imagine there's some sort of follow-up planned for Zootopia, given it only made Disney a billion dollars. Whether that's a full film, like Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen, or a TV show, like Tangled and Big Hero 6, remains to be seen.

Though given the lack of merchandising visible on toy shelves at Target and T-Shirt racks at various stores, I'm guessing it didn't move merchandise all that well? Might weigh into their decision not to follow it up with a sequel (that and the plot concluded at a pretty solid position; as much as I want more of that world, given how uneasy Ralph Wrecks the Internet is making me, it may be for the best that they stick with that conclusion and don't try for a sequel that then ends up heavily missing the mark). All that said, I've gathered you can still find Zoo merch in Japan fairly readily, so I guess they do have at least one market to capitalize on.

I'm in Korea and I see plenty of Zootopia pencil cases and the like.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that The Incredibles 2 is better than the first, but I do think all of the people crowing about how much worse it is than the first (and particularly the people who think Screenslaver is a less interesting or less coherently written villain than Syndrome) are coming from a place of pure nostalgia.
