Yeah basically it was cutting off the money side of the union which is used to fund things like training or strike funds.

This allows CHUDs to enjoy benefits the union fought for without having to pay the monthly dues.

The average cost per month of union dues is $46 but you still have right wing types in government whining about this.

Look at this nasty scab website making a unintentional case for unions (Your cost will be such much higher with a union)

https://anh.com/the-cost-of-unions/

I had to stare at this for awhile and my take away was basically what I already thought I knew:

Essentially, "Hey, look at all those non-bargaining workers who not only make less per hour but also get a fraction of the pension and healthcare contributions, praise the almighty profit and let the worker starve, live life sickly and die young and in debt with nothing to pass to their families."

Capitalism is so wonderful. Let's lower corporate taxes some more and hoover the last crumbs up to the 0.001% because hey gently caress everyone else.

To get back on track

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/aid-checks-go-out-farmers-worry-bailout-won-t-be-n912311?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma

Due to current tariffs US farmers are having to sell corn at a 44 cent per bushel loss and the Trump administration is providing them with a 1 cent per bushel subsidy.

quote:

Farmers across the United States will soon begin receiving government checks as part of a billion-dollar bailout to buoy growers experiencing financial strain from President Donald Trump's trade disputes with China.

But even those poised for big payouts worry it won't be enough. And while support for Trump is near unwavering in the heartland, some growers say that with the November election nearing, such disappointing aid outcomes could potentially affect their vote.

"It's pretty obvious that the rural agriculture communities helped elect this administration, but the way things are going, I believe farmers are going to have to vote with their checkbook when it comes time," said Kevin Skunes, a corn and soybean grower from Arthur, North Dakota, and president of the National Corn Growers Association.

Corn farmers get the smallest slice of the aid pie. Corn groups estimate a loss of 44 cents per bushel, but they're poised to receive just a single penny per bushel.

"If these issues haven't been resolved, there could be a change in the way farmers vote," Skunes said. "A person has to consider all things."

Farmers are already feeling the impact of Trump's trade tiffs with China and other countries. China has hit back hard, responding with its own set of tariffs on U.S. agricultural products and other goods.

At least Trumpy reduced to loss to just 43 cents per bushel.

If only there was some way to invest in midwest funeral homes.

a world with UBI is a world in which the predations of the finance sector are broken, aka a fantasy land

it's tough to predict what the ag sector would look like after crops are removed from all speculation and market forces, but something like a special tier of UBI for farmers that's adjusted for their equipment and output, or even no interest government loans for farm capital, could work. This is all stuff we could do now just by redirecting taxpayer money that's already being spent on the ag sector middlemen

It's impossible to tell what their actual opinion is. If we've learned anything about the media and the reporters they send out, it's that they will absolutely cut out of any story anybody who is critical of Trump or the Free Market

Every part of the spectrum except the fringe left is absolutely terrified of a left populist movement and will do nothing to give it oxygen, which is why there's strikes all over the place, including every teacher and educator in LA county but you aren't hearing poo poo

Any farmer who says, "yeah Trump's really loving this up, that guy's gotta go" doesn't make it to print

Also the subsidy for Trump state farmers ended up being inadequate compared to the size of the loss inflicted by things like the Chinese tariffs.

That's true if GDP meant anything anymore.

Nowadays it seems to measure the rate at which the wealthy steal, and the money that changes hands as a result

Just shows you don't have to be smart to be a big time political operative. Even the most cursory glance at the public filings for any of the Trump organizations would show there are almost no conditions where those properties can cover maintenance, debts, and produce a profit.

Trump's business is the classic case of "if you owe the bank a hundred dollars, you have a problem. If you owe the bank a billion dollars, they have a problem."
