Eternal Darkness’ framing story is so good that I can’t believe no games copied it. Like there’s Saga Frontier 2 which came out before but... maybe Octopath Traveler. Just not a lot of timeline hopping anthology style framing stories on games but it meant Eternal Darkness could depower the player and change the pacing without cheating.

i almost don't want to count saga frontier 2 as a sweeping history game because it suffers from inverse matsuno syndrome. there's this extremely involved political drama but it all gets glossed over in favor of Assassin Who Tried To Kill Gustave But Joined Him Instead, and Wil Knights' Scenario Where Wil Is 17 But Suddenly You're Playing As His 23 Year Old Son To No Exposition

Outside of a Yoko Taro game, yeah.

I especially like how the relationship between Pious and his master Ancient changes depending on which one you picked, i.e. Pious acts like a spineless lick-spittle to Ulyaoth, is the real one calling the shots when he's working with Chattur'gha, and is just completely beleaguered when he has to deal with Xel'lotath.

i beat destiny 2's main campaign and liked it. i do not play these games for 500 hours, i just do the solo stuff and it's fun

I dunno what the game was like at launch though, but right now it's a good time

it sucked not having the landspeeder until AFTER beating the main campaign though, that was such a clear microtransaction grab

i'll do some more of the adventure missions before uninstalling it

Live A Live is the closest thing i can think of but they're not all relatives. You're right, it's very easy to make compelling I'm surprised it's not more common.

If they remastered Eternal Darkness maybe they could do something with that super secret fifth yellow magic alignment that got cut from the final game.

its probably a better fit on mobile, or at least a laptop or something, its a short session type of game mostly. mobile version's fine

The destiny games are always fun enough times, especially with friends, but they just have so so so much more potential that they fail to live up to. They still aren't really nailing what they promised at E3 all those many years ago.

The game is a decent shooter but its a shell of what it was supposed to be, and it keeps on making one step forward and one step back and can't make up its mind, which is just a shame.

But its certainly better than a lot of other garbage games. Just, people expected more from Bungie after the smash-hit redefining success that was Halo.

That's low as poo poo for SO3. Say what you want about liking or not liking the plot, that game set the meta for post-game content in jRPGs. Should at least be in the 85-90 range

playing the new heat signature update, its real real good and is gonna draw me back into this game for a good while. lots of new twists that make missions not necessarily harder but more complicated to solve, characters have traits now beyond just starting out with different items and amounts of money, daily challenges. its a good update that goes back to an already excellent game to address criticisms and go even further beyond what it was
