Suffice it to say there is a marked difference from today and back in 2010, when every Tom, Dick, and Harry could put an alt into DEMZERON HUNTERS, get blue standings with the entire northern coalition (no dot), and awox for hours. Whatever is happening, it's working.

I'm looking over my character - Planetary Interaction is garbage now, even if you're in nullsec, right? I shouldn't regret sucking the SP for PI skills out and applying them to literally anything else?

The money is OK, particularly for something you only have to think about once every week or two (or much more often, if you're super in to lovely space farmville for some reason) and with a really small initial investment, but while it's not much harder to run 2 or 3 or 5 rorquals than it is to run 1, the effort involved in PI increases p much linearly with the number of characters you have doing it. So yeah if you aren't going to do it there is no reason to keep that SP in it. You definitely aren't missing out on anything amazing. That said it might be worth training on a cyno alt or skillgoo farming account if you have one, since you have to be omega subbed for those things anyway you might as well do some fairly passive ISK generation with it.

It was a bit more dragged out than that but the short version is that the people who were active and making stuff happen got sick of the lowest-common-denominator direction of things. Basically "Newbie Friendly" and "Idiot Friendly" got conflated and the "chill out low effort kill some guys" squad became the "drooling idiots crowing about pod killmails and getting fleetmates killed" squad. The people who had been making things happen went off to Reavers or Blackops.
