normals don’t go to urls, they go to websites or click on links. nobody types in a path into their machine. the url has become essentially useless to humans, it is simply a machine resource locator backing up symbolic hyperlinks.

Shinku ABOOKEN posted:did you ever bookmark or share anything? congrats on your url urls are like ip addresses. they are for machines and computer nerds. they are implementation details. nobody cares what the url in their bookmark is, it’s just an entry in their browser that goes to a page. sharing is copying and pasting a link. yes, it’s a url. it’s better if there’s a descriptive link name, otherwise you’re left to try to guess the content from what’s essentially a path and query parameters.

new in chrome 2021: pay google and a specific search term typed in the location bar will go directly to your website. for $10,000,000, "news" can resolve to cnn.com registering "dead gay forum" for forums.somethingawful.com should only cost a couple hundo, well worth it imo

when i was in high school i used to post a lot on the MacAddict forums and i remember once i was staying at a friend's house and, like a cool guy, decided to check out what was happening i typed the whole url, something like http://www.macaddict.com/forums/forumid.php?forum=19 and my friend literally asked "how did you know that" so as you can tell i've pretty much always been a badass

so the new gmail has a cool bug in safari where it thinks that the screen is much wider than it actually is so whatever is on like the right half of this imaginary screen cant be seen. this includes the time of the emails on the homepage
