Just a reminder that Over the Garden Wall is still streaming on Hulu and October is pretty much the perfect time to watch it. The whole series is less than two hours and it’s got a great voice cast.

By coincidence, I watched Over the Garden Wall last weekend. It's also really good, but a bit of a darker tone. Try to watch it every fall.

X-rated cut of Robocop is on Amazon Prime now, only difference as far as I know is this features a poo poo ton more gore and blood in a few scenes (Murphys death, board room exec getting shot up).

It's brutal enough in the regular cut but in the extended cut it's definitely a joke, the guy is getting riddled with bullets for what seems like a full minute.

IIRC, the gratuitous violence on the hand/arm mutilation and the headshot were originally toned down, and maybe the excessive number of bullets they riddle him with. One thing I never get tired of in Robocop is how much personality and panache all the villains have. It’s a drat near perfect movie.

I really liked Maniac. Worldbuilding is my jam, and more important than a lot of the individual characters. One of the reasons Mass Effect is my favorite set of 3 games (there is no 4th mass effect)

*subject wakes up in a large padded armchair facing a wall-mounted flatscreen television, arms free but legs securely chained to the chair in a way that involves several padlocks* *Jigsaw video starts to play on the television* "In two hours, the air in this room will fill with a poisonous nerve agent. There are two ways to unlock your chains. Either use the knife sitting on the right armest to dig the key out of your own stomach, or use the remote control on the left armrest to watch all of the new Joe Rogan comedy special on Netflix without skipping. If you do that, the locks will disengage. The choice is yours."

Man I just randomly watched The Sadist on Amazon Prime and it's a strong, tense little thriller. Made a little bit after Psycho, it's about three schoolteachers held at gunpoint by a spree killer (Arch Hall, Jr.- the guy from Eegah!) and his crazy girlfriend. Like they make a lot of movies now where everyone's trapped in one place by like sharks or wolves or whatever, this is like that, but instead, it's a guy with a gun. A slow burn but it gets really desperate and really tense. Hall is actually well cast. (And, well, it has to be said- he doesn't watch out for snakes.)
