I wear them off the course because why not? You never know when mower is going to kick up a rock.

Ugh, I'm having a hard time imagining just what the hell went on there that would cause 6 rescue divers to drown at once. Was there like a giant drain hole like they have in the dams?

This sucks but she does know you can walk or go to the gym with only one eye, right?

That's just it, one of those drain holes would be straight down, not in a circle fast enough to cause equipment to fly off.

Something sounds fishy...

I dropped that fucker off to complete one job and all he did was gnaw the plastic engine cover off the chainsaw. He's a good boy but you just can't leave him alone to do work.

I wanna bet that this one was closed for several minutes before the train passed, given the number of people on each side.

Safety barriers are hugely important but if they don't work properly they can make people behave even more dangerously.

Portland Oregon MAX used to have swing gates across the tracks at transit centers, and they would have 'watch out for the loving train' signs on them. Closest I ever came to getting hit by a train was holding it open for the person behind me.

The speed of the train makes me think the timing of the gates were set to accommodate the slowest moving trains so idk.. do gains on lines with both high speed passenger and low speed freight traffic typically have crossings that automatically adjust for the speed of the approaching train?

I'm fairly certain it's dependent on the location of the train and has no logic built in regarding the type or speed of train. I would assume some sort of electrical circuit that the train shorts when it rolls over.

I was late to work once because a piece of debris fell on the tracks and made the gates go down thinking there was a train coming even though there was none. It was 5AM on a Sunday Morning so they stayed down for several hours before someone could get out there and fix it.

Pretty impressed at how it successfully put out the fire.

I don't remember the flow rate on those things, but I think its like 30 or 60 gallons per minute or something. The times I've seen it happen in apartments, the water damage far exceeded the fire damage. If I had them in my place, I'd keep a wedge and plug around just in case one triggered.

As a building engineer, literally the first thing you teach a new apprentice is where the sprinkler shut off valves are located. Sprinklers are by far the one thing most likely to do major damage in no time. When you get a call for a fire alarm in the middle of the night it's like 20% concern that there's actually a fire and 80% that a sprinkler head popped and you'll be tearing out drywall, carpet, furniture, and ceiling grid on 3 floors. Well, 20% fire 70% sprinkler 10% the FD just deciding to break something for no obvious reason.

The water-based are meant to control and prevent the fire from spreading, not exactly to kill it. That's why they also in some installations go off in sectors. The fancy poo poo like halogen are meant to kill the fire as quickly as possible.

And major water damage is always easier to fix than major fire damage.
