to the extent containment works, it works when the contained are: a small fraction of an overall coherent userbase (failed for 4chan, the original wave of anime thirst posters was already walking dead at its launch in retrospect as economic changes and a roaring post-9/11 comeback for the warrior-centric monomyth meant subsequent generations had completely different imprinting) that never has a sudden unbalanced increase in the problem subset (failed for 4chan, where basically every other big forum coordinatedly dumped their chuds in 2013-2015 without any sort of reason for a left or even lib uptick) and draws oversight from outside its own jenkum hotbox (failed for 4chan, content moderation outside of fielding calls from the fbi is basically entirely on the idiot king model) some days i'm curious how a forum where you could punch morons, implemented as any user able to queue a sixer for themself AND the target, would work. but the answer is probably "instantly subverted by offsite brigading" these days.
