Yeah a lot of factors went into why trump won, but a substantial chunk of them were 'hillary clinton's garbage charisma', 'hillary clinton's garbage reputation', and 'hillary clinton's garbage campaign'. There was a bunch of other bullshit that probably would have harmed anyone, but just playing those three things better would probably have flipped it.

Somewhere between 6-12% of Bernie supporters ended up backing Trump, which is probably around the same percentage of Rubio / Cruz supporters that backed Hillary. It's a dumb take, but definitely not a surprising one.

Yoshi Wins posted:This was slightly higher but comparable to the 12 percent of Sanders voters who voted for Trump. err this NPR piece actually reiterates the claim that 25% of clinton primary voters went for mccain in the 2008 election, which is an outstanding number, because it also states that about 12% of trump voters in the republican primary ultimately voted for clinton (in other words that 12% of sanders voters going for trump is pretty bog-standard and probably represents everything from a given percentage of dumbass fence-sitters to people voting in the other party's primary strategically) should we use that NPR article as a source or not, because it directly contradicts your primary argument (that there wasn't an exceptional amount of clinton > mccain drift)

The French tried annexation & assimilation and look what happened to them. There isn't any kind of relatively more tolerable version of colonialism, because it all ends up in the same place. The French just get to keep more stuff in the end because places like French Guiana were never strong enough to do a revolution.
