This past weekend I was at my parent's house and picked up some stuff that was long forgotten. One of those items was my NES from when I was a kid, so I took it home, dusted it off and let the kids play with it. I then noticed a game that I hadn't played in years that I had bought on launch day, played for 24 hours, then never played again since as a kid I thought it was absolutely terrible. So I picked it back up again yesterday, Legend of Zelda: The Adventure of Link. I tried to get into it again and just realized after 30 more years, the game is just genuinely terrible and should have never existed. Maybe if it were the first in the series, it would be excusable, but when the original was essentially gold standard material and then they release something as steamy as the followup, sometimes I have no idea what is going through dev minds.meatpimp posted:You're allowed to be wrong. I honestly think it's funny. It's an internet tradition for someone to go "I don't have that problem, goodbye!" Especially for something like the winter crazies, it's transient and predictable, so you have to be able to laugh about it It's also lifesaving to have some positivity around when you're sad brained. It can be very grating in the moment, but it's good to know that life isn't as miserable as it seems when you've gotten stuck in a miserable place

Indeed. I know what time it is. True story -- Flava Flav wouldn't share his fried chicken with me. All I wanted was a bite and he was eating it on stage, right over top of me, after a PE concert on the second floor of some Pittsburgh bar. It was a crazy night, but I was hot, sweaty and really just wanted a bite of Flav's chicken. meatpimp fucked around with this message at 01:09 on Oct 23, 2018 |

MrOnBicycle posted:Speaking of working on cars. Tried to replace my dogbone gearbox mount. After unscrewing 35 screws/bolts just to remove the undertray I could see it. Looked simple. Boy was I wrong. The first bolt was so drat tight I had to push with my whole body. It got free, but still hard to spin. Ok.. without going any further I decided to see how hard the other one was to get so I won't waste any more effort. Ok Impossible. Fine. So I tightened the hard as gently caress to release bolt back up to spec, i.e. tight as hell.. and decided to just go to a mechanic. In case anyone is interested in odd designs of motor mounts: So I had a mechanic take a look this and the gearbox mount wasn't worn. I was wrong about the problem being the mount..... or not. After looking at it I suddenly remembered a Alfa 4C video I had seen about the gearbox mount. Turns out it's the same construction in my car. What's wrong you might ask? Well the drat hole for the bolt in the motor mount is much too big for the bolt, so the only force that prevents it from moving the the pinching pressure and friction from the tightening of the bolt. This explains why it got so much worse (even if I did it up as tight as I could. The mechanic said that he was very surprised at something like this from an FCA car (lol jokes incoming!), and that it was a stupid solution. He didn't want to just do it up and instead want's to put some bracket in the hole to that the bolt won't slide about as soon as it wears down / gets loose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcSweYCuv1M - this is exactly the same as in my car (probably same parts). Edit: Garage machined a aluminium bushing and fitted it. Smoooooth sailing after that. Glad to have it fixed, though it wasn't cheap in the end. At least I have a fresh part and the problem is fixed. Monday at work usually keeps me occupied and I missed lottery chat. I don't have the lottery in Utah but if I were to win I would spend an absolute ton of it. I would help as many people as I could. I wouldn't work again. Set up trusts for the kids and live a nice life. I don't think I would be able to blow through hundreds of millions of dollars like those horror stories you read about. I would buy a nice house in the mountains of Park City/Deer Valley here in Utah and then have a vacation property somewhere warm. I would have ten different cars and other internal combustion powered toys. I would take up hobbies to a more serious degree like photography and videography. I would spend more time outdoors with my family. I would nurture whatever passions my kids find in themselves and push them to be the best at it. Those are all pretty much things I plan on/am working for in life, just much more immediate. Speaking on seasonal SAD stuff - I have been trying to resist the inevitability that will come with it. I have Our farewell to good weather is coming tomorrow. Flying to San Diego and spending a day at Legoland and another at the beach. Can't wait

OKAY Roof is 8.5 years old. Furnace is 8 years old. Water heater is 4 years old. AC unit is fully functional but is 17 years old. No termites. No moisture present in basement. Pipes leading out are all pvc, no roots present. No woodpecker damage. A few odd wiring choices BUT ALREADY HAS 240v BIGASS COMPRESSOR IMPENDING. The windows are mostly original but they glass was upgraded at some point. There were a few small things but only one major issue. The house is 37 years old and a portion of the slab has settled somewhat. So there are a few cracks on interior walls but no wide splits. One wall has some slight bowing. The inspector passed it as safe but asked if we wanted a structural engineer to inspect it which we have opted to do. The sellers stated no structural issues so our realtor is going to them and requesting they pay for structural supports to be installed to prevent future issues. There is a 3 season room that has two doors to the house for some reason, one sliding and one set of french doors that are on the wall that settled so they are no longer squared. We've decided we'll immediately demo that wall and close it off which will make the dining room more useable. Otherwise the house passed on pretty much every criteria on the inspection list. So we'll see what the sellers say and if it delays our closing. And check out this backyard And the finished basement is 400 sq ft!

Expect a modern efficient furnace and water tank to last approx 10-15 years. Sure it might last longer, but anything after that is borrowed time. The roof is 8.5 years old, but what kind of shape is it in? I assume good or else you would have said otherwise? I've seen 3 year old roofs with lovely ventilation and shingles need work. The settling on its own isn't necessary a huge issue, but the wall cracks and bowing certainly can be. Don't expect the sellers to be falling over themselves to pay for structural supports/discount the price of the house significantly, especially if it hasn't been listed long. If they are not super motivated to sell, they'll probably wait for the next Also, I don't know about your state laws of what is required, and assuming you are going through an agent who should have thought of this, but be absolutely sure the sellers supply a current/accurate survey and compliance letter for your city/town/county. As the spouse of a professional land surveyor, and participant in several real estate transactions in my years, I've seen several deals held up and even go sideways by surprise survey issues. Either non compliance happening, or not supplying one period. Lenders typically take serious interest in this as well. Protip: I know you are excited, but please don't get your heart set on it, be as unattached as possible at this stage. Your real estate agent will probably do what they can to get you to buy since that's how they get paid. If you get even a slightly bad report from an engineer out of it (you don't get much more serious than structure), walk away. Don't buy a headache.

I believe there is a survey on file from 2017. Also our agent is a very good friend of ours and is incredibly up front about everything. Hell she took time out of her vacation on the day she got engaged to touch base with the seller's broker for us. I'm clearly hyped but if there was a dealbreaker i'd be ready to walk. The inspector said he's seen far worse settling that was repaired for reasonable costs. So we'll see what the expense is gonna be to make those repairs.

That's good and glad you are willing to walk - just don't buy a headache! Just keep in mind a recent survey/RPR isn't all you need - you should request current letter of compliance (or at least, I assume your lenders will request one. It's the norm here). Basically what the survey tells you what's on your property for buildings/improvements, and the borders of the property line, etc. A letter of compliance makes sure that say, you don't have any structures/improvements (fence, out building, deck, driveways) encroaching on any other property (or vice versa, your neighbors on yours) or, and this is the one that often catches people, encroaching on right of ways. Good luck - I hope it works out for you.

There's a reason wooded lots cost 2x what naked ex-farmland with three-week-old trees landscaped in do when you're buying new.
