ASK ME ABOUT MY SHITTY, BOUGIE INTERIOR DECORATING ADVICE
Are there certain conditions that have to be met before the game will give you the contract to kill bandits playing dress up as direwolves? or is it just incredibly rare? I've reloaded about 20 times on a 3 skull contract on day 24 to try and get the bandits but so far no luck. I wish it was more common.

I got the mission but am not sure what condition triggered it. The wolf armors are aesthetically pleasing but not the best (100 for the leather and 140 for the chainmail), even at my mid-levels.

I just hired a retired soldier with base 65 and 3 stars in MA, base 10 and 2 stars in MD, and base 11 and 3 stars in RD. :getin:

e: He just beheaded a bandit on his very first turn in combat. He did it with a shortsword :stare::hf::black101:

He could reach 100 Melee Skill at level 11. That's not too bad.

Direwolf Mail is the best armor for archers imo.

They must have high melee attack and defense. Just take duelist on a character you would make a two-hander and you are good to go basically (don't take reach advantage obviously). Axes, flails, daggers and swords are good weapons for them.
Some people make nimble duelists, who wear light armor and use their high initiative and the overwhelm perk to the full. They can take almost any enemy one on one but they are a bit finicky. One very unlucky hit from a orc warlord's mansplitter axe and they are done.

In my current game I have a squire with around 90 MA, 40 MD and the brute perk (which gives bonus damage to hits on head). I gave him a unique orc axe + the duelist & headhunter perk and he's a very scary dude basically. He does not get the most kills, but he puts reliable damage to everyone and regularly one shots raiders.

Yeah the trick to those is you need to only really send them to 1v1 the dudes without the mansplitters.

Random Tip: Brothers get paid/fed from top left, to bottom right. So if you're running out of food/money, put greedy/gluttonous/disloyal brothers in the top left to feed/pay them first.

Anyone verify this?

I just missed a partial paycheck and it doesn't hold up. A random selection of both my lines had the "did not get paid" morale penalty, mixed in with those who did not have the penalty. No pattern to it in terms of their position that I could see. I did notice that none of my three companions from the start had the penalty, while my two newest guys did have it, so maybe it goes by time with the company? I don't remember the order I hired the rest of the roster so I can't check properly.

I think my game might be bugged, in a good way. I've just had 4 contracts in a row to take out a bandit encampment; and all of them have had the twist where a bandit leader just happens to be visiting and you get extra money from presenting his head.

Eh, it's a complete game. I'm happy about getting an expansion, but they clearly wanted to do something new and are doing this because they need/want a bit more cash to do it. I'm all for them getting that cash and then making that new game (which IIRC is a spiritual reboot of Jagged Alliance, which I think they could do well).

The Bounty hunters showed up on number 4. I just let them take the drat head, an extra 900 gold wasn't worth the effort when my guys were all completely hosed from the last battle.

I've also killed several fallen heros; and my three 2h dudes have managed to get equipped with 240 helmets and armor free of charge. I thought they'd object to wearing armor that had an undead dude inside it for god knows how long but they're cultists so I guess they're into that poo poo? They look cool in their big black helmets.

No defensive perks like Colossus because a bro like this needs to have good Melee Defense and I take Quick Hands with a shield always ready to discourage enemies from attacking him in the first place. Also because enemies around cleaver duelists die quickly.
This screenshot was taken over a year ago and I'd assign stats differently now (I give my bros a lot more Resolve now) but I still use the same perks. Pathfinder is always up to personal taste but I'll pretty much fight whatever, whenever, wherever so I always take it on everyone.

It's complete but there are still things that could be added. There is a dearth of interesting things to do after the first or at least second crisis besides mindlessly grinding until you can take on the Black Monolith and the big goblin city. Big orc camps are always a challenge, and goblin camps can be depending on the number of Goblin Shamans involved. But apart from that you crush everything you encounter regularly later on unless you start a private war against a noble family. So I'm glad they're adding more late game areas.
The option to rebuild destroyed settlements would be nice.
Additional enemy types added to existing factions would be a good thing. I like the new monster types added for the DLC but they seem to mostly be enemies you encounter in homogenous groups. Like, I don't expect to randomly run into groups made up of spiders, wolves and angry trees working together all the time. So adding more variety to existing groups would be good. Like, give noble companies skirmishers with thrown weapons, dogs and spears. Add something like Ancient Acolytes that serve as a precursor and later support for Ancient Priests. Let Necromancers send reanimated Unholds and Lindwurms at you. Something like that.
On that note, an additional crisis would be a good thing as well.

e: Also, terrain features and actual city and dungeon/ruin maps.

Add possible modifiers to crises. Maybe the undead invasion happens because of an ultra-powerful necromancer, and the world is in a permanent night. We all know you don't need ranged fighters.

Orks & goblins take over a noble house and its cities. You can trade with them, but only if you have a good enough relationship with them. You gain relationship by attacking other noble houses. Plot twist - the undead take over another house later on, and you have the option to switch sides before an apocalyptic war between the orcs and undead.

I've played this game quite a bit and its alright but I gotta say, I'd enjoy it a lot more if the idiots i employed were retro xcom tier expendable instead of having to care about "builds" and "levels" or any sort of fancy smanshy grindy trash like that. I refuse to recognize them as bros; they are louts and leeches and wastes of my time, and i want to throw them haphazardly to their early deaths in pursuit of victory. the longer they are in my service the more i long for them to die, and yet the whole design of the game seems to be based around making their deaths as exasperating as possible.

It's a problem with all these sorts of games, players generally like to be able to get attached to long lived units and have them become huge badasses which tends to mean that the difficulty curve of the game is designed to take into account the fact that you're building up some experienced units. Which then means if you just want to play full meatgrinder style you get outscaled.
