Yeah, but what I described didn't even GET to using those. A single fan fire with that set up will eliminate the toughest enemies in the game without a thought required. And it can be done multiple times in a single map.

Sure, but it’s a top-tier ability and in keeping with the pistol power curve, which is designed to fool people who don’t think too hard about how the game works.

I'd like an extension/a DLC where we have a worldwide battle. I mean online. Like, Firaxis would have "campaigns" (or "seasons" if you're a Blizzard fella) where the community needs to reach a given amount of point in, say, one week. You'd play by rolling random maps, and based on the relative difficulty you choose you'd score more or less points (you could say "give me a Moderately difficult mission for this squad of rookies, Commander-level of difficulty". They could have a ranked ladder, save your character pool for the season, etc. As the campaign/season advances more enemies are introduced, etc. We could even imagine that Advent/Aliens are also ran by humans :psyduck:

Am I the only one seeing great potential for something like this?

I contest this with Additional Icons - maintains the pips, but *adds* a numeric health display, as well as other info, such as their primary weapon's damage range, their aim, their mobility, and whether or not they are carrying loot.

All of that sounds like basically cheating next to the simplicity of Show Health Values.

I'm gonna add EU Aim Rolls, Immersive Strategy Layer, and Hours Instead of Days, for starters.

Maybe play a month or two without Immersive, but you'll want it before long.

Bradford's campaigns did manage to feel amazingly fun - especially the first one, for me. The DJ one was more serious, and don't me wrong, I loved it too. But I loved the way the narrative flowed on the first one.

1. "We were a bunch of scavengers desperately trying to scrape together enough to survive and stay one step ahead of the patrols."
2. "Hey, looks like this team actually works pretty well together."
3. "Huh, I guess we accidentally saved some civilians while trying to steal some more Advent poo poo. Being heroes kind of feels nice."
4. "You know what? We're total badasses, let's go deliberately pick some fights!"
5. "gently caress the aliens, they should be afraid of US!"

Dumb though the whole thing may have been, it actually felt surprisingly organic. Like there was a subtext in the squad of a bunch of random dregs gradually and completely accidentally, turning into genuine heroes. Even Bradford wasn't really expecting it, nor had he been planning it.

One of the camera mods that allows you to rotate the camera 45 degrees at a time instead of the usual 90 (so you can see things square-on instead of forced isometric) is essential as far as I’m concerned. There were a couple to choose from last I checked.

Lily's campaign is pretty mean but I still love that one mission in the final campaign where there's multiple overlapping pods and you have absolutely zero long range weapons.

It's a bit obtuse. When you are selecting a squad for a mission, click on the option to Edit the appropriate soldier, and then choose Weapon Upgrade in the menu that appears.

Didn’t get I play during the week but had a day off yesterday and played a bit. Started my first mission with The Lost yesterday where you separately meet up with Elena and Mox. Finished the Elena half and it went fine because I had a heavy with two grenades. They remind me of the EXALT missions but not as hard due to them having no range currently and the bonus action points.

The Lost are really less of a discrete threat and more of an environmental hazard. They're usually not a problem at all, but if poo poo gets out of hand when you're fighting someone else, they can very very rapidly turn an otherwise mundane mission into a total clusterfuck. This is doubly true if a lot of explosions happen unexpectedly (such as from stray bullets hitting cars) and the Lost spawn in right at the end of your turn and then immediately get to move.

e: the flipside to this is that watching a beefy enemy whiff a shot, get swarmed by Lost, and subsequently get beaten to death by zombies in ripped jeans remains incredibly funny no matter how many times you see it.

By default they have a 70% chance of targeting your dudes and 30% of targeting Advent. Only way to ensure it is to make none of your dudes valid targets by being in concealment or being out of reach.

Lost Lures will also train Lost on to whatever is on their radius

A Better Advent introduces a Lost variant called a Boomer. Their feature is that they explode on death. I find it a great idea in all its simple dickishness, and it's especially funny when you don't pay attention and one of them explodes between two cars....

Well I have a bizarre mod problem.

Last night I installed a bunch of new mods. Mostly voice packs and a few sundry small things. This somehow caused One Million Colours and Detailed Soldier Lists to dead-rear end stop working. I figured alright, this happens, just gotta figure out which of the new things did it. (It had to be one of those because I literally just closed the game to install the new mods, and the old ones were working fine before that.)

Well, long story short, uninstalling all the new mods and then reinstalling the two.... didn't help. In fact, I have now wiped out every single other mod except those two and they still do not work. And I mean wiped out, the workshop folder and mod.ini are both empty apart from them. And they do not work. What the gently caress, game?

Time to reinstall the game next, I guess.

EDIT: Ok scratch the last bit, just wiping the game's config folder did the trick. Still wish I knew what the gently caress caused the whole thing in the first place, but ugh.

I mean to be fair, I wouldn't want to fight the Lost ALL the time, and the Lost maps are inexplicably heavy at least in the post-mission Photobooth, but still. They're a fun change of pace and the clusterfucks they cause when things get a bit too explodey are pretty hilarious.
