Can we briefly dip in to shavechat? My dermatologist recommends I try a dry electric shaver because wet shaving with a blade is irritating my skin too much. I'm awash in a sea of possibilities and I have no idea what the difference is between a £300 Remington and a £30 Remington. e: 6 is how old I look after a shave

Can't help but feel that most people not knowing that German extremist groups use the old imperial flags as stand-ins is going to preemptively muddy the waters. These are the people that still try and say "but it's an ancient religious symbol" to excuse the use of the actual swastika.

You may be beyond that though if a dermatologist is telling you not to

How close a shave do you want? I've generally done just fine with whatever Philips have to offer for fifty quid or less. If you're going clean shaven then get one of those shavers with the round flat heads and you're good to go. I also can't wet shave; I didn't go to a dermatologist, I just noticed that my skin screamed for mercy after a wet shave no matter what I tried, and then I started growing a beard anyway.

Best I can manage is a fairly decent moustache and the rest is patchy, unconnected shite along the jaw-line and on my neck. Not a beard worth having.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, I get shitloads of gross dermatitis unless I use corticosteroid creams and treat my skin nicely to prevent rashy bits happening. Really I just use a cheapo Argos clippers/beard trimmer to reduce my beard down to 1-2mm where necessary. It's tidy enough to be considered a professional office look in most places these days, and it suits most people even if your actual beard is pubey and patchy. You can faff around with electric shavers but if you're like me you'll be disappointed with the results I also use that same clippers to do the sides of my head on a regular basis and keep my look fash-fresh. I'm so happy I live in an age where trimmed stubble considered neat enough for work as opposed to everyone demanding a full clean shave 100% of the time. I wouldn't have a face left if I tried to shave down to bare skin every day.

TBH if I shaved more than twice a week I probably wouldn't have as many problems but what white man in 2018 can look at themselves in the mirror more frequently than that?

I had some revelatory advice from the dermatologist. Nobody uses nearly enough corticosteroid when treating eczema. You should slap on loving loads, apparently, in short bursts (no more than a few days at twice a day), instead of constantly applying a very thin layer. I swear by it now, can go weeks without the slightest flare up in places. Firos posted:Whatup my can't-grow-a-beard-for-poo poo brother. I shave my beard by getting a nice lady to zap tiny areas hair-by-hair with electricity for an hour a week. It'll only take about a year probably and then I'll have literally the smoothest shave physically possible. Uh, maybe not the best option for the fashionable man about town though.
