Zereth posted:I don't think it was because the player killed the character's friends and family, as adventurers are generally spawned in ex nihilo, so they don't have any previous relationships, but they do, in fact, still have a "Soul", which is the game-mechanical part which creatures in Dwarf Fortress keep their thoughts and feelings in. There was a bug a while ago where every time you went to sleep you changed which entity you were possessing, so you could wake up as a demon in hell, then sleep and become a peasant or whatever. So it wasn't impossible to bodyhop and do that. You triggered it by going to sleep on an ice sheet, then letting it melt while you're unconscious. Since your body moved during the sleep timeskip, it detached your soul. Of course the other undertalesy bug is what happens when you systematically annihilate all intelligent life in the DF world http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=46033.0 quote:

I'm a dirty cheater, but it's interesting to note that wait, do we still need these? er, anyway, the game's save files actually do save all of the information you gave during the vessel sequence, including if you answered honestly. I'm probably years late to the theory fest, but I do wonder if the idea of creating a vessel was interrupted by someone or something else, signalled by the very sudden transition in narration style and visuals ... in that way, it makes sense that, if your soul has been diverted from what you were doing and stuffed into Kris, they would not be terribly fond of it. I think it's worth noting that nowhere is it suggested that Kris is left without any soul -- they've just removed yours -- and it's possible that this act may have pushed them over the edge.. Also, there's a handful of messages that are readied for display, but are intended to be overwritten by an actual event before being shown: quote:gml_Object_obj_npc_facing_Other_10: "* Is that a cut on your face^1, or part of your eye?/%" The old messages from the previous game were a lot simpler (mostly variations on "Error!"), so the change to these is interesting. The theory about fluffy boy being Kris's "ideal self" might not be too far off; for a sibling that doesn't fit in at all and is completely different from everyone else ... oof. Damnit, Toby.

Damnit, Toby. I gotta admit I'm into this particular theory/interpretation. Especially since Kris would be a metaphorical black sheep. And yeah yeah I know the Dreemurs are goats (or some other kind of horned ungulate), but still.

If you go through the hoops to throw it away, you deserve what happens to you when you presumably start Chapter 2 butt-naked.

Note that there's no "root" of the spade in that one, which implies it's part of his real face, which means it's his nose...

In Sans' secret room there's the strange machine, a badge, and a photo of 3 people you/Frisk don't recognize. Game Theory is that the machine is the time machine from the end of Earthbound, the 3 people are the other 3 party members and the photo is from the photo album Ness gets at the end, and the badge is the Franklin Badge. Also Papyrus is a Starman, rather than just wearing a halloween costume of one. And Megalovania is originally from the Earthbound Halloween Hack, therefore Sans must originate from that universe.
