It kind of felt like the wagon train was the first one they wrote and were trying for a full movie but didn’t like any of the added things when they tried to pad it. So they just made it an anthology.

Apparently the first story was the first one they wrote a long time ago, and had no idea what to do with it since shorts aren't really in demand.

I think Buster Scruggs will get less acclaim than it deserves because it's straight to Netflix. It's one of the best movies I've seen this year.

On the thread's recommendation, I am up to episode 6 of Patriot and holy hell this is a fantastically oddball show. I still have no idea whether or not the piping jargon they use is legit, but it's fantastic from a comedy perspective. Seriously up there with Better Call Saul—I have no idea why it's so poorly reviewed. Just too weird for most folks, I guess? Maniac on the other hand was a bit too violent for my aging tastes, unfortunately. I did like it nonetheless.

I did not care for Buster Scruggs at all. There's dark and then there's misery porn and I found it to be completely the latter, except lacking the visual beauty that usually accompanies the Coen Brothers' work.

Tried watching Trevor Noah and he's still a terrible standup. Actually he's a bad everything. What a lucky man. I'm still not sure how he coasted into that Daily Show spot with how unfunny he is. Having a British accent makes you seem more intelligent and your political criticism more valid. John Oliver is "successful" for the same reason. Buster Scruggs owns. Really heart-breaking stuff in there. Wagon trail and prospector episodes were my favorite.
