Like some universities have an actual room to sit in and chill out and in theory you can get kicked for racism/sexism/homophobia/etc (never been to one so idk how they enforce people aren't jerks). Edit: I've attended meetings where their invitations have something like "this is a safe space and we respect all etc etc etc", which filters out the bigots and hopefully makes everyone else feel welcome. I attended a con where they said they were trying to make the whole convention a safe space but were like "look we can't police this, but we have a phone number to call if there's a problem and we will kick you out for harrassing anyone" and did a Q&A/tutorial on what to do and what not to do, how to be a good ally, how to address not-okay behaviour, etc. Of course, there's a bunch of people out there who think that because they have never experienced or seen any problems, they can't possibly exist and trying to address this is oppression. I can't speak for other states but here in Victoria women are seven of our eight state MPs and one out of our three federal. As far as candidates go there seems to be a great balance between women and men, at least for seats that are winnable or are running large campaigns.
