Maybe it’s the weather but the new Windhand album is exactly what the doctor ordered. It is slowly making its way into my top 5 albums of the year. Music to Seasonal Depression to.

I just came home from one hell of a tech/brutal death metal show. Cytotoxin, Benighted, Cryptopsy and Aborted is the type of lineup that doesn't happen very often, but when it does  And on a goddamn Wednesday FFS.So worth the hangover tomorrow.

Music to Seasonal Depression to. Windhand became my favorite doom band because they’re so weirdly comforting. I first got really into them on a car trip where I hadn’t slept much the night before. I blasted them and drifted off to sleep, waking up every once in a while. Ever since they’ve been a very grounding band for me. Melancholy and heavy but in a relaxing way depending on my mood.

I put on a doom gig back years ago and managed to catch a nap by the sound desk through one of the sets. Not sure how to something that loud but yeah, strangely comforting.

Only one release on my radar today. New Valkyrja, a very generic Swedish bm band featuring members of the vastly superior Ondskapt. This new album is actually pretty great though, much better than their previous work and sounds to me like Watain if they were better. Tomorrow is loving stacked though: Whoredome Rife(fun BM band who put out a super good 2017 release), Monolith Deathcult(great weird DM), Blasphemer(classic DM band releasing new material) and Cantique lépreux (Forteresse side project)

I've grown to like recent Opeth stuff - it's not that bad, the last album that is. But it's a shame the direction they turned to when Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree started producing then got rid of Peter Lindgren and Martin Lopez.
