I agree with Futurama’s opinion of TOS- 79 episodes, about 30 good ones (maybe)

Honestly it's taken a while for all Star Treks to get good, so Disco has until S3 to get some positive fan reaction or I'm just never gonna bother.

And by "has until S3" I don't mean I'm watching it during that time - I gave it a couple of episodes and it didn't impress me enough to follow along - but if it gets enough people saying "yeah it started poo poo but it's really picked up now" then I'll go back and watch from the start because I'm just wired to be that kind of masochist completionist

I'm pretty content without Discovery, not to mention I don't really like to follow along with conventional fan wisdom. At this point it'd have to be like universally acclaimed for me to give it another shot.

For the first time in my life, I have zero interest in new Star Trek. They've managed to finally kill what curiosity I had about that fictional universe, at least for the time being. Hopefully that'll change as they continue to throw poo poo at the wall to see what sticks since, once again, they have little else to prop up their national television network streaming service.

I hold no real hope since even if they listen to "the fans" there's too high a chance that they'll just end up making empty headed fanwank for hordes of quasi-fascist nerds who think that feminists and gay people are pissing in their corn flakes. The combined drama of that horror and the behind the scenes fiasco are actually more compelling to me than anything they've filmed.

Also gently caress "give it till season 3!" The tv landscape has changed and we have years and years of these kinds of shows behind us. it's 2018 and if your series takes three seasons to "find itself" by now then your show sucks.

Even with the new shows? There's going to be the Picard show, the animated lower decks show. It seems like they want each show to be very different from the others.

You are an odd fellow, but I must say... you throw a swell shindig.

I can't foresee myself going out of my way to watch Discovery again unless I really hear good buzz. I'll watch Picard from the get-go just because loving Picard and the TNG era are literally the only things that could have brought me back, so chalk a victory up to the bean counters on that one I guess. The cartoon... ehhhhhh

It takes more than just the name "Star Trek" to get me in the door at this point. I'm firmly in the "we'll see" camp on any new projects with the current creative team.

Real talk though, the Picard show may turn out to be crap but it does have Michael Chabon writing, who is vastly more legit than anyone else who has written for Star Trek in this millennium.

Seriously, there's so much you could do with a transported person while they're in the datastream. Delete a valve in their heart? Give them cancer? Put them in a coma? We already know they can split people into versions of themselves, clone people entirely, fuse different beings into a new one, remove diseases, deactivate weapons. Transporters are a terrifying thing.

Imagine materializing somewhere and over the following minutes, your hand goes numb and pales out while a massive bruise starts forming at your elbow, all because it hosed up when reassembling you and misaligned an artery.

I'm not super optimistic considering the last time we saw the TNG era it was fat Riker party crashing the Enterprise finale.

I could probably get behind a Captain Picard talk show though.

That's the thing, though, I don't necessarily want old Star Trek in 2018+. Something named Star Trek and featuring Patrick Stewart doesn't automatically make it good, viz. the last (at least) two things named Star Trek and featuring Patrick Stewart.

There's parts of it that should work in theory.

I like Lwaxana but she's always stuck with bad storylines.

I never quite buy it when Odo gets "emotional"; he's best when he's grumbling around and solving poo poo.

The stuff with Jake and The Muse is just kind of there.

Mostly I was just bored. Let's get back to some Dominion/Klingon/Cardassian action!
