Well it's a drat good thing the paint on this car is already trashed (no paint at all in several places, just exposed plastic).

Tried to hang a shop light in the garage. Lost the original chains and S hooks when I moved, got replacements. A hook didn't like the angle (used the garage door opener framing, and used a cheater to plug it into the switched ceiling light socket).

LF A pillar is now missing some paint, and the windshield has a nice deep scratch all the way across (diagonally). :argh: Pretty shocked that T8 tubes survived that drop though.

Ideally I'd have removed the car from the garage, but I'd have to park half a block away if I did that at this hour. Welp.. :sigh:

So apparently a couple of idiots effectively shut down the London airport by flying drones around, stranding shitloads of people trying to travel for the holidays. Saw this coming a mile away, and now the copy cats will be doing the same poo poo over here probably lol.

It was Gatwick, specifically, London has multiple airports.

I'm expecting the result of this to be additional regulation that makes things harder and generally buggers things up for everyone, while failing to actually prevent anything similar happening again.

Not really, and for the same reason London didn't shoot them down either. All those bullets gotta come down somewhere, and in a highly populated city they're gonna come down on people's heads.

They need to just use one of those net guns out of a helicopter or something.

Yeah, all those mass shootings that don't happen in the UK are sure burdensome to their kids who aren't being murdered I bet.

One of the more amusing parts of gun fetish culture and the unfounded fear that everyone needs to be running around like it's the final circle of PUBG at all times is that cops in the UK, unlike their US counterparts, have actually come into contact with terrorism at some point in their careers. Ever hear of the IRA?

Mass shootings are statically incredible rare. You act like large scale murder doesn't happen in the Europe. It does. It's just in different forms. And Australia didn't didn't really have any large scale attacks before the the gun buyback.

The vast majority of "gun deaths" in the US are suicides. And iirc suicide isn't significantly rarer in the US, just suicide by gun. You fix that by decreasing the desire to commit suicide. Not by taking away one of the many means if doing it.

Don't be absurd a 50 cal is completely unreasonable for handling a drone. They would probably use something like this at little regional airport and these at a larger international airport.

Seem ideal:

quote:

Drone exercise accidents

On 10 February 1983, USS Antrim was conducting a live-fire exercise off the East Coast of the United States using the Phalanx against a target drone. Although the drone was successfully engaged at close range, the target debris bounced off the sea surface and struck the ship. This caused significant damage and fire from the drone's residual fuel, which also killed a civilian instructor aboard this ship.[17][18]

On 13 October 1989, USS El Paso was conducting a live-fire exercise off the East Coast of the United States using the Phalanx against a target drone. The drone was successfully engaged, but as the drone fell to the sea, the CIWS re-engaged it as a continued threat to El Paso. Rounds from the Phalanx struck the bridge of USS Iwo Jima, killing one officer and injuring a petty officer.[19]

The Phalanx is nice, but I think twin 50mm anti-aircraft cannons would be the way to go.

I have a friend that's a scientist for the government. She's a couple days into a 2-week vacation, because she has ~100 hours of time that she has to use by January 6 or she'll lose it. If they shut down, she just loses it. She's uber pissed.
