Okay, I can see why people just used Consuming Claw throughout the game now, because this is a lot of customization to keep on top of.

Berseria is built on Zesty's awful systems and combat and equipment, and their solution was to just make Velvet so powerful that you can ignore everything. Which is fine but yeah there's a lot of mechanics that don't ever matter

I mean it's not like you suddenly need to pay attention to that stuff if you play anyone else. All the other characters are busted too. Eizen just instantly nukes random encounters the instant he gets a stun or knockdown and 90% of his moves have those. Don't feel like you have to play Velvet and only Velvet.

berseria character guides velvet: nukes enemies if she's angry eizen: nukes enemies if they fall on their butt laphicet: nukes enemies if they walk magilou: nukes enemies if they use magic rokurou: nukes enemies if they attack eleanor: knocks enemies into the air, then nukes them

Don't feel like you have to play Velvet and only Velvet. More specifically, I was just talking about all the variations on monster types now and how all the artes have properties to them. Use this one if the enemy is armored/a beast/demihuman/winged etc. Like, I can set up everyone's arte flow to have something for everything easily within reach or I can swap to Velvet, turn my brain off and turn Consuming Claw on and wipe out the encounter in ten seconds. It also doesn't help that the part assembles remarkably fast too so just as I'm still not quite sure how to use Rokudou, Malak No. 2 shows up and Eizan hops into the party bus four minutes later.

you really don't need to worry about any of those properties for like 95% of the game and any time where you would have to worry about them you can just get past by setting the difficulty lower, just bounce between characters it takes like a half hour to get used to each of them at most

I literally never once paid attention to the anti-type attributes on artes. Also all the other party members wipe encounters in ten seconds too, even the healet

Took me longer than anticipated because I'm a completionist, but I finished Ys VIII finally and it was bittersweet. It was definitely a game that grew on me, and I'm going to get around to doing an NG+ Nightmare run next year (saving money means going back to old favorites!). Pretty sure it will also snag a spot on my top 10 games played this year. I tried to activate a trial of PS Now to check out Atelier Ayesha but it looks like it won't let me without putting in my credit card info- which Sony still refuses to accept for ???? reasons for years now (which restricts me to gift cards with sony services). Does anyone know if getting a month of PS Now from a physical card also requires having billing info on file? Although for $20 I could probably just buy a new game outright and kind of defeats my hopes of using the trial as a demo. I'm still curious about the Atelier series though, and was thinking that I could get a physical copy of Sophie for under $30, is that something that would be a good introduction? Edit: I made the mistake of searching for info on Sophie and came across some poo poo that made me uncomfortable even after being on this site for over a decade. Its making me question my interest in the series because on the one hand I'm thinking "chill and charming looking slice of life, like a JRPG Harvest Moon thats presumably LGBT friendly from the chat here" and on the other hand I'm wondering if it is just some weird fetish thing. Or both. But yeah, I like the premise but reading about it outside of this thread is giving me second thoughts. Cinnamon Bear fucked around with this message at 16:54 on Dec 22, 2018 |

The Atelier games are (generally) fine as long as you just play the base games and ignore everything else about them. And the numerous 'groping is hilarious' jokes which tend to show up in anime/manga regardless of genre or target audience. 'High impact sexual violence' and all that.

plachta's outfit is extremely questionable and they keep shoehorning in hot springs, both of which i do hate deeply

Note that when I say 'Atelier games' I just mean the Dusk trilogy I haven't bothered with anything after Shallie partly due to Plachta. I'm not a fan of hot spring scenes but if you can't learn to ignore their presence you should just skip everything with a manga / anime aestethic. Which is fine, I really couldn't blame you Renoistic fucked around with this message at 17:06 on Dec 22, 2018 |

Alright, thanks for the heads up, I've had a long day and forgot the internet is a cesspool and maybe I shouldn't dig too deeply. Not hot springs or outfits, but one of the first results I came across was a discussion about Sophie's mechanics and a few posts in were guys talking about how much they want to lick and drink their blood and then posting some weird hentai art poo poo of the characters. I just wanted to know about mechanics! Cinnamon Bear fucked around with this message at 17:14 on Dec 22, 2018 |

as far as vaguely LGBT friendly there's some weirdly het comments in a couple of the games but I like to think that's just posturing because Regina knows Ayesha isn't ready to settle down yet i also agree with the reading that escha is the only one interested in dudes (or just logy)
