It's a little surprising that people, including some who are supposed to be professionally knowledgeable about politics and foreign policy, are still trying to project a coherent worldview onto Trump. He's an belligerent imbecile with no understanding of how alliance systems or global geopolitics work, making decisions based by his own admission exclusively on his gut instinct and then shouting them at his subordinates.
