I wanted to check in on this before I do some gluing to finalize it. I've got the Start Collecting Malignants box, and everything in it is nighthaunt except the Mortis Engine. The Mortis Engine's factions can't ally with nighthaunt it looks like. The Mortis Engine also builds into the Coven Throne and Bloodseeker Palanquin, both which can ally into nighthaunt. Looking at the difference between the palanquin and throne, it seems to be just a couple more vampire ladies and slightly different parts on the top of the throne.

1) Am I correct with all this, or did I miss something?
2) If I build this thing as a mix of the palanquin and throne (maybe magnetize the extra ladies, but that might be unnecessary), no one will actually care if I tell them which it is at the beginning of a game, right?

1)the Mortis Engine (and Bloodseeker Palanquin) can be taken in a Legions of Nagash army (it gains the keyword for Grand Host of Nagash or Legion of Sacrament/Night/Blood), and per GHB 2018 Nighthaunt can be an ally to LoN.

so you could build a Legions of Nagash army with the Engine and ally in the Nighthaunt units. But if you were aiming toward a Nighthaunt army then yeah their only allies are the Deathlords and Soulblight units, so no Mortis Engine.

Also this is all moot since all the units in that box are Legions of Nagash eligible. Most Nighthaunt stuff is.

2)people do this all the time

So GW confirmed on their facebook that we're getting a Kharadron team for Shadespire pretty soon. The Shadespire models are all wonderful so I'm excited for these, especially with the small model count of the Kahardron. It might even open up alternate playlines for the KO in AoS proper.

Not sure if this is the right place but a friend of mine recently won the ‘win the black library’ competition and has 400ish black library books sitting around that he doesn’t want.

Any ideas on the best way to sell them? Do you think anyone would be interested in buying the whole thing as a lot at a big discount?

If he didn't want 400 books, why did he enter?

But to answer your question, nobody is going to want to buy that many books, unless maybe you sold them for like $400 shipped. Parting them out would be a pain as well, especially since you'd have to deal with shipping 400 individual books.

Can he contact BL and say he doesn't want them? Save everyone the trouble? Or maybe he can donate them to the local library and groom some young hams?

If book questions can go here, is Valkia the Bloody the only Warhams book with a female protagonist? I know we probably won't go up from there in sheer power fantasy but I had a lot of fun with it. 40K suggestions are fine too.

In Aos alone there are several with female protagonists:

Nagash: The Undying King - https://www.blacklibrary.com/new-titles/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/nagash-the-undying-king-ebook.html
Heart of Winter - https://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/featured/heart-of-winter-ebook-2018.html

Nerferata - https://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/novels/ebook-neferata-mortarch-of-blood.html
Heartwood - https://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/quick-reads/heartwood-eshort.html
Black Atonement - https://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/featured/advent-2018-19-black-atonement-mp3.html
Dance of Skulls - https://www.blacklibrary.com/new-titles/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/the-dance-of-the-skulls-eshort.html
Blacktalon: When Cornered - https://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/quick-reads/eshort-blacktalon-when-cornered.html

You might find better suggestions in the Black Library thread: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3494493

But they're pretty sniffy about Age of Sigmar over there, so expect more 40k recommendations.

A lot of the current raft of novels are from the Stormcast perspective and in the past year or two there have been many female Stormcast models appearing and the novels are reflecting that. In Soul Wars, one of the principal and pivotal Stormcast is female, in Plague Garden likewise another pivotal Stormcast is female. Line members are as likely to be a "sister" as a "brother" and women hold every rank, from the highest Lord Celestant to the lowliest Liberator. The Easy-to-build Sequitor models have a female Prime: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-IE/Etb-Stormcast-Eternals-Sequitors-2018 And the Soul Wars box has many female models.

Likewise, the Daughters of Khaine are an entirely female faction, the Deepkin have mixed male and female warriors and a female Wizard general, the Sylvaneth are led by Alarielle and Drycha, powerful female warriors/gods. The Mortarch's in Nagash's army are 2 male, 2 female. The Malign Portents Slaves to Darkness hero is a female warrior queen. And there are many more examples.

There's pretty decent gender distribution in AoS, relatively speaking, and it's getting much better all the time. The new novels are reflecting that and will similarly increase over time. As a prime example of the new direction, big boy Gotrek no longer hangs out with a manling, but a witch-elf.

There has, or will, come out a book about a Darkroath Warrior Queen as well under BLs novel series they announced earlier this year.
One of those books I also believe features a female elven pirate.

Yeah, I linked those above:

Heart of Winter - https://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-age-of-sigmar/featured/heart-of-winter-ebook-2018.html

Haven't read them yet as I picked up most of the AoS books in the 40% off audible sale currently on, but I'm looking forward to them, and continuing on with the two more stories that Gotrek has been on since Realmslayer.

Then there is always the book about Warhammer Fantasy Neferata:

I like how they're continuing to expand on Neferata in Aos. It seems she's a fun character, both to write and perform, going by how much fun Emma Gregory had playing her in Black Atonement: https://www.audible.co.uk/pd/Black-Atonement-Audiobook/B07KX7KVZL

Unfortunately I'm mostly bound to past me's purchases who went HAM on some Khorne stuff (I enjoy painting skulls and blood spatters a whole loving lot so it's a good pick). I would be ALL ABOUT Daughters of Khaine but if I wanted to branch into a second faction, I'd probably pick garbage rats. Picking two melee specialty armies just seems like a way to get burned out during the playing part.

Well you don't need to collect the army to read their novels :) Plenty of female led stuff in other race based novels.
