THIS is the cool stuff I love seeing, the stuff that makes me feel like we're moving in a good direction in some way. The trouble is it doesn't happen nearly enough but it makes my heart swell seeing stuff like this and gives me hope for a better tomorrow. Amen. We have to take the victories when they come. Nothing going on yesterday, today, or tomorrow should discount the significance of this. Sure, it may end up all being a wash in the end, but drat - this is cool. And that moment is real. Sure, zoom out and poo poo is dire. But without the motivation of the small (yet significant) victories, how do we expect ourselves to maintain the energy to keep fighting the good fight? The fight for progressive values has always been a long and uphill battle. In this dark period I try to remind myself to "stop" and appreciate moments like this, because on the offhanded chance progressive values ultimately win the day, it's people like her who are leading the charge.

There is no effective socialism without feminism and anti racism; an anti racist or feminist worldview that does not specifically address economic inequalities is just as hollow. When people talk about intersectionality, it means an analysis that accounts for all the ways in which we differ, and socioeconomics cannot be excluded if you want to get any meaningful understanding. When people say “white feminism” they are describing the attempts to divorce feminism from antiracism and anticapitalism. It turns it into a hectoring insistence that we need More Women Prison Guards and doesn’t do a drat thing to address root causes.
