Yeah if you're relying on your backup kicker who isn't even really your backup kicker to make a last-ditch kick that rarely succeeds in the best of cases, then your game is probably already lost

Actually pulling off the onside kick would've been a pretty tall task, but I guess it just seems like it shouldn't be that hard to not kick the ball 30 yards. Put the ball on a tee and put me in there, and I guarantee I will not put it 30 yards through the air.

Yeah there was zero chance that was going to work. The game was over as soon as Dak converted that 3rd and 15.

Hawks should just not have a kicker. Yeah IIRC there was a recent rule change and the stats on successful onsides are deceptive because that includes surprise onsides, I'm pretty sure the success rate on expected onsides is probably like once per season if it's even that high. It shouldn't have come down to that, the 3rd and 15 conversion was basically the epitome of everything bad about the defense this season e: I literally think I've seen the "pop it over the first line's heads but ahead of the others, let it bounce" kick work once in a college game and that's it. And on top of that Sea Bass has only had one successful onside in his entire career so it was probably a wrap even if he hadn't been hurt. The circumstances that got him hurt are all on Schottenheimer though, he can get hosed. Manoueverable fucked around with this message at 06:10 on Jan 6, 2019 |

I think the biggest fuckoff moment was getting a pathetic 3 and out after KJ Wright's interception. After that, the defense really played like rear end.

I'd say so, he played there for a decade then went to work as a coach for Urban Meyer who has had a bromance with Belichick for ages.

I'm just happy the Hawks made the playoffs and had a classic close loss to end the season. As always, need to pick up another reliable o-lineman, some help on the defense, and some wide receivers, and, hell, we'll be back next year. Hopefully. With Wilson, a playoff spot is always possible.

Yodzilla posted:The Seahawks suck but please don’t besmirch Seabass He really has always been poo poo at onside kicks, though. Successful onside kicks require a lot to go right at once, but that starts with the kicker making recovery difficult for the other team, and it never really was Seabass’s kicks. Maybe he’d try that thing where the ball is supposed to jump awkwardly at the last minute, except instead it would just dribble slowly at an opponent and maybe peter out before it went ten yards.
