I went through TSA in portland yesterday and the absolute amount of fucks given was incredibly low.

My bag got flagged for screening, the dude brought it over to the counter and was like
TSA: bro, I have no clue why he flagged your bag... you got anything in here that's dangerous?
Me: no, I have an extra pair of shoes and boots in there but nothing that's dangerous/illegal
TSA: whats in this small box
me: medical tape
TSA: whatever, you're fine *walks away and takes out phone*

Building a wall in any way suggested would be the single largest engineering project ever conducted in the modern world and probably all history. Don't have time to compare it to the great wall of china but they might have it beat if adjusted for modern times.

I'm curious if anybody in the inner circle has ties to the US steel industry. Interesting how the wall suddenly became a steel barrier a few months after tariffs went into effect.

Almost certainly yes, but regardless I believe somebody with an ounce of sense in the administration realized they should probably tie the pet building project with the campaign promise to revitalize the steel industry.

Good. Maybe it'll show how unnecessary the TSA is.

I say that with friends in that agency. You just need scrutiny, not security, for public safety.

TSA has already come down with the Blue Glove Flu, and it's probably gonna get worse.

The mass call outs could inevitably mean air travel is less secure, especially as the shutdown enters its second week with no clear end to the political stalemate in sight.

“This will definitely affect the flying public who we (are) sworn to protect,” Hydrick Thomas, president of the national TSA employee union, told CNN.

At New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, as many as 170 TSA employees have called out each day this week, Thomas tells CNN. Officers from a morning shift were required to work extra hours to cover the gaps.

Call outs have increased by 200%-300% at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where typically 25 to 30 TSA employees call out from an average shift according to a local TSA official familiar with the situation.

Only emojis can express my pure, simple stupidity.

“Why I like that the government is closed: Using financial means as leverage to stir why the government should open with the TSA and IRS showing that these agencies are truely worthless and need to go. This government shutdown is going to expose exactly how many leaches are in the government or depend on the government, which will give almost an exact amount of how much federal employment/programs needs to go, and what needs to be privatized. I like it, keep this bitch closed!”

The wall doesn’t have poo poo on the U.S. highway and interstate road systems in any measurable terms. Cost more, insanely larger, and more steel and concrete and asphalt than 3 border walls. Our highway networks are insane.

It's probably illegal and they'd all get autofired.

A lot of the federal unions can't legally strike. I believe it's a consequence of the Reagan years, where by law, federal employees can't strike.

Could they do a mass, multiday sickout? I hear the flu is really bad this season.

It could in the sense that it's being built over poo poo terrain instead of surveyed routes but yeah you might be right

Lots of those roads were built back when the technology to build them was awful in comparison to now. Especially in the mountains.

I wouldn't say any of that was easier.

Does it count as a strike if people just quit instead of not showing up for awhile? With what TSA pays the first sign of paycheck trouble people are going to have to come up with a solution for rent really drat quick. When the guy in charge is filling his Depends every day with another tantrum and threatening to keep it going for a really long time people are going to start looking at the exits.

Even scabs won't show up if your sales pitch is, "Yeah you'll probably get paid eventually when this is all over."
