to be honest I doubt any of the characters I've seen going "U SHULD OF PUT A 2J IN IT" are remotely familiar with the shortcomings of GDCS's. It's not like they're criticising Toyota for failing to engineer their own pay Yamaha to engineer their engines - they're specifically asking for a new JZ motor or the old one. Never mind the obvious shortcomings of a steel block inline 6.

If Toyota decided to do this on their own, they'd probably have droped in a tuned 2GR-FSE, which would probably get close to the 250kw power figure of the BMW powertrain and also be boring as poo poo to drive. I feel like this is the only way Toyota were able to give people what they were asking for, without blowing millions of dollars on R&D for a one-off engine.

Nah the second is indeed nearly as good as the first and if anything the visuals and world building are far better. The second does have two things wrong tho the first doesnt -

1) The emotional hook. Wick himself is a REALLY bad man. This is a guy who the underground fears, who has no problem murdering every mother fucker in sight in any gruesome way he can. In a normal movie he would be the ultimate Boss level for the protagonist to dispose of - but in the orginal, we get a glimpse he genuinely wanted out, that he is redeemable and more over, when that dog gets killed the audience wants this otherwise terrible person to rain unholy hell on the Russians. It's a simple setup but drat effective. JW2 really is leaning somewhat on the motivations of JW1 so we're not as fully emotionally invested in the murder spree. That does make a hell of a difference to how we see JW1 and JW2 - we have a real connection to John in 1, we .... kinda dont in 2. Do we really care if he murders nameless gangsta no 287 in 2? No. I think we only really reconnect with John too late when he blows Santino's brains all over the carpet. I dont think the audience connection issue will be there in JW3, we all want him to murder the High Table.

2) JW2 was no longer a surprise. It's a drat good film but it lacks the "HOLY poo poo WHAT THE gently caress DID I WATCH???" of JW1. JW1 came from absolutly nowhere - there were not a hint this masterpiece of revenge was coming and thence when it hit the circuits everyone is WHOA what the gently caress!!!!! That makes a big difference to how you do appreciate JW1. I personally had simply heard that JW1 was something I needed to watch (I think I might have seen a bit of the Red Circle throwdown online), watched it without knowing a drat thing and was gobsmacked. JW2 just doesnt have that surprise factor and despite how good JW2 is - and I think it's a techinally better movie visually - we're not quite as involved.

I dont think JW3 is going to quite have the audience involvement problem of JW3 - We absolutly want him to headshot every mother fucker that comes after him. That hook was superbly done in the last five minutes of JW2

I like to watch the John Wick series as if it is an alternate Matrix universe where Neo stayed in the system, a little bit older but still shredding enemies Lobby-style without the whole Wachowski plotline stupidity. He just wants to eat his steak.

Ignorance is bliss.

I need to get on watching that series. Was it written in a way that the first was a complete movie and after they found out it was bankable they decided to trilogy it and that's where the 2nd falls short?

Eh, not really. It was a complete story in the way that any story where you don't kill off the entire cast at the end or blow up the universe is ever 'complete'. The way they tease the whole underworld thing is great and that was definitely something I was interested in seeing more of, trying to understand how it all works etc and that was basically the second film...

The first is a really lean story, it only has the absolute basic of motivations and that just means it gets on with things and is pretty much just a 90 minute orgy of ruthlessly efficient murder which you're totally on board with...

They wrote it, filmed it, edited and were then surprised it was actually a great movie which was so well received.

It will be interesting to see how many actually sell (or if anybody notices) since most people don't actually know how to drive anymore, but I suspect that when the hype settles most of them will rot on the showroom floor Toyota will say "huh, guess people don't want sports cars anymore" and go back to cranking out Camrys and SUVs.

Five degrees to starboard!

Poland verdict: it's a cool place.

The Fiat 500 I rented proved barely powerful enough for the road from Warsaw to Gdansk and just barely big enough for two guys + tools, but it worked okay. We went to the WWII museum as well, which focused largely on how the Polish people got kicked in the teeth over and over again. It was a bummer, but really powerfully displayed. I dropped my colleague off at the airport and visited Sopot as well; just took some pictures on the beach and pier. Drove back to Warsaw stupid-early because I had to catch a 9:00 flight to Hamburg, and it snowed the whole way.

I'm in Hamburg now visiting my colleague at the company he works for. I rented a Skoda Rapide, and I'm really pleased with it! Much nicer than the Fiat. Hamburg got a light dusting of snow last night, so it felt extra German today. I'm proud of myself for negotiating a haircut, including chit-chat with the barber, almost entirely in German!

Tomorrow: Spain.

Yeah I loved it! You forget how good an automotive show can be when there is no budget limit in sight. The artistic directing and editing are worthy of a full length feature film. The rest of the season is going to be wild.

Spoilers for episode specific details: I really loved how they played on the Marvel intro scene for the cuts between the Detroit clips. I don't think I realized how much of a mess Detroit is. It is like an UrbEx paradise. So much history and industry just left their slowly being reclaimed by the earth is wild to see. Of course, I've got no will, neither does my wife. Need to get that sorted...

This. My wife completed her Paralegal degree in 2017, and if nothing else, she got that out of it. My mother-in-law has had to act as executor for her brother, her husband, and her mother-in-law, and that convinced her to set up a trust herself, so that we don't have to go through all that crap. We need to do the same.

I just saw a web service called Cake that's supposed to let you do wills and such online, but more importantly, organize and specify what is to happen with your digital assets/life. I've set myself a reminder to check out how/if it works.

I'm following my mom's lead (as is my wife) and am donating my mortal remains (assuming they're intact; otherwise it's cremation) to a teaching university hospital. Now that's a though. Put this bag of organs to good use - I don't need it any more.

That won't stop piece-of-poo poo family members from trying to sue for their "share", it just won't make it easy for them.

Best thing in a case like this is to make it abundantly clear in the will with no uncertain terms that the leeches are purposely being excluded from inheritances and that the person was of clear sound mind when decided. That way if push comes to shove and a judge has to look at it, it's a no-brainer.

Depends on your definition of "suitable". Does it make the car go forward and backwards in a reliable and mostly consistent fashion? Yes. Is it any fun to drive? No. It still shifts like absolute garbage if you try to use it manually (at least it does in the 3-series), and having 8 speeds just gives it 7 chances to be in the wrong gear at the wrong time.
