Surprised that he didn't suggest we do what he did and get a small million dollar loan from our fathers.

Not gonna deny that but USAA gets a lot of credit for being compassionate to service members and it feels like that has evaporated lately

Fallom posted:Is USAA for real denying people the loan Yep. I personally know some Coasties that we’re denied and there’s quite a few people on reddit claiming the same. To what Kawasaki said, yeah-think of some of the guys taking out huge loans for a ford raptor and barely getting by...USAA offered an awesome deal on a loan, but they need to protect themselves at the same time. Edit: I’m not saying that’s what happened to all the people denied...the people that I know were junior enlisted (e4-e6). nwin fucked around with this message at 00:41 on Jan 25, 2019 |

the only people that i ever heard of getting usaa loans were officers i don't think i've ever personally encountered an enlisted person that successfully got one i tried several times during my dire financial years and was denied despite having good credit (at the time) and putting up collateral of greater value than the loan so i gave up and just used my credit cards

USAA was also one of the last* mil banks to offer shutdown loan/banking assistance. *There was a webpage you could go to for some information if you knew where to find it but they didn't make a large announcement about any programs until after most competitors.

I'm thinking I should open a Navy Federal account soon given the somewhat bad press USAA has been getting lately.

I'll still probably keep USAA but they're definitely not as great as they used to be. I don't really use any of their services beyond banking anymore anyway, but if I ever buy a house it'll probably be with another bank. That won't matter though because I'll never buy a house.

I’ve had USAA for everything for the last 20 years-I was under my dad for car insurance and then put everything under me when he passed. Their checking and atm reimbursement is good, but their checking and savings rates suck. Their investment branch just got sold off to someone else and their USAA specific index funds have higher expense fees than vanguard. I’m not sure on their car/renters/property insurance. I like it because I’ve never had a problem with an accident claim or when my wife’s diamond fell out of her engagement ring and went missing. I like their customer service in that regard but I’ve heard their rates are higher than others.

Vasudus posted:the only people that i ever heard of getting usaa loans were officers Yeah my experiences with USAA were bad. OTOH I can (and have) apply and get near immediate approval for a $5000 no collateral personal loan from navy fed. I've done it twice for deposit + first months rent when moving so that I still have cash on hand. e; They also wanted more than double Gieco rates in car insurance

I've tried comparing auto insurance rates but none of the competitors' websites would give me a better deal than USAA without reducing coverage.

I have a checking account, savings account, two credit cards, and renter's insurance. They're slightly cheaper than what my apartment complex offers for their insurance, like 11 dollars vs. 12 a month. I did have car insurance from them and when my ex crashed the car in a parking lot and got a daytime DUI USAA refused to pay the other guy somehow??? Then they totaled it and I got more than I could possibly have sold that car for. I don't use them for investments because I have no investments other than my very generous 401k and corporate stock plan. I'm not at that point yet, but it's probably gonna be with Vanguard when I do.

USAA's loan plan is you basically just signing up for a credit card. This is what they told me when I asked for a personal loan to help with closing costs and a 790 credit score. Im not happy with USAA mostly.

When (if?) this shutdown ends, are Federal employees going to get back pay? Can the system handle such a big chunk of transactions?
|
# ? Jan 25, 2019 01:27 |

Yeah they're going to get backpay, a bill was already passed for that. And they even future proofed it by making backpay mandatory in any future shutdown. Contractors and indirect collateral organizations still get hosed over though, that part will never change.
