Wait what the gently caress "Trigger Warning" is a new book? I thought John Ringo wrote it like at least a decade ago? E: poo poo I'm thinking of "Ghost", which is ALSO about a steely-eyed kinetic operator who goes to college and gets sneered at by The Libs until The Browns invade campus and kidnap all the pure white women and the main character has to kinetically operate to rescue them all (and I think gently caress them all too?).

Yeap, there was a Let's Read of the whole thing in TFR a while back and it was completely horrible. In one of the later books that same kinetic operator gets an actual harem, including kinetically underaged girls (as in, younger than 15 ) dressed in actual schoolgirl uniforms. Conservative literature is a cesspit.

I find it unfortunate no one (to the best of my knowledge) has ever done a Let' Read / summary / doctoral dissertation of all 150 (!) Remo The Destroyer books. If you're only familiar with the movie, you're missing out on an incredibly disturbing look into the sheer ID of the "sane" conservative who "hates everyone equally".

The guy was really weird by modern standards. You can see a lot of the goofy conservative conspiracy theory crap in place in the early 80s. Things like liberals just want there to be crime because you don't want to hurt peoples feelings. You also have a white guy writing a token black guy so you can see he isn't racist. Also the main bad guys are Illinois Nazi's. There's a lot of gang banger racist stereo types in there as well. But the really weird thing in this after the bomb story. He get's all his like minded individuals together to form their perfect society. And it's communism. Flat out communism. The government makes sure you have a job, everybody has health care. Everybody contributes to defense. In times of trouble everybody is expected to pitch in. It almost reaches the point society works without government. There's nothing for government to do. The workers revolution is complete, if your neighbor needs something you have the means to give it. And he managed to blunder into this without ever taking his eyes off of a rigid set of right wing talking points. And he wrote like 30 of these books before he died.

Right-wingers are surprisingly amenable to progressive ideas like universal healthcare and guaranteed minimum income just as long as long as they can be assured that brown people will not be able to benefit from it in any way.

Atlas Shrugged kinda has the same thing, Galt's Gulch is a post scarcity utopia with unlimited free energy and robot workers. Despite, every citizen being an ubermensch capitalist/industrialist none of them ever compete with each other with each of them picking one industry and managing the entire thing themselves. There is no crime or disease, government consists of a single judge who doesn't appear to do anything. They say charity is anathema to their society, but they never charge each other more than a symbolic amount, and the oil man continues to drill and sell oil despite it being worthless compared to the perpetual motion generator.

In Galt's gulch you'll work on whatever you want and society will provide for all your needs so you can do that. Kind of. In the sense that an author can make a utopia work by author fiat. Ayn Rand made her goofy capitalist system work because everybody was moving around on her puppet strings. Johnstone did the same thing, but the one he created was much different. It was a managed economy in that if you didn't have a job one would be provided for you. If you had something you could do, great, but if you didn't they would find something for you to do. Healthcare was a right. If you got sick, you would get treatment. Housing was a right, this wasn't to hard to swing because it post apocalypse and there was plenty of housing. But it was baked in. There weren't any super rich people, but no poor people either. Now there was a huge caveat. There was a strict interview process to get in and a justice system that could only be described as draconian. It was openly admitted that this kind of society could only work if people of like mind lived together. I'm not sure where he falls on the whole separatist racist line. Normally I'd say it doesn't matter cause if it walks and quacks like a duck. But in his book there was also a Native American country that popped up in California I think, and an African American one in the South. None of them were explicitly "only this race". All of these countries were violently destroyed when the U.S. Federal government decided to reinstate it's authority. There was a theme that maybe it would have been better to gather together under one banner, but it was also worth it to try our separate nations, with the African Americans and the Native Americans not really trusting the white main character. So yeah the guy was really weird.

It doesn’t really matter because Trump lost his leverage. If he keeps making GBS threads his every months over the wall then people will get sick of him. He owned this shutdown, and he’s the one who blinked.

He's already badly hosed any republican with a competitive 2020 reelection. Six republican senators broke rank to vote with the dems for a bill they already knew would not pass. If he does this again, he may see a full blown split and revolt from his coalition.
