Nah, to my shame I've watched enough SVU to know they'd uncover some vast conspiracy, possibly involving going undercover, before they got to the law part.

the "The Brave Officers that were negligent and derilict of duty have assured us that the woman they shot to death was _really into it_, she pretty much made them do it, her idea really" spin seems familiar. Wonder when we get the "she was no angel" articles.

Unless he's been trying to do a lot of non regressive deeds before the switch, why the gently caress would any Dem want to work with him? Like I want to give the non zero amount of Rs switching a hand but come on.

The Hillary/Pelosi wing is very traditionally conservative and very dominant over the party, so I can see them being welcomed with open arms.

Same reason they'd work with any other member of the Legislature? They're not giving him any new position of power or anything, and as long as he's voting with them it's another vote in their favor. It really doesn't seem like he's getting anything out of this other than not being denied membership in the Democratic Caucus. Which is probably all he wants anyway because he thinks he'll lose next election as a Republican. If he votes like a shithead, then it seems like the Democratic Primary he's now signed up for is as good a check as anyone's going to get this side of expelling him from the Legislature for not voting the way you like.

I believe in supporting businesses; but that the workforce needs protection - and organized labor provides that protection. I believe that health care should be accessible to everyone - no one should have to choose between medicine and buying groceries. Also Democrats had a supermajority even before he switched.

Schultz would be utterly repellent to the vast majority of the people planning to vote for a Democrat in 2020, but he might peel off some of the Kasich/Flake Republicans who only voted Trump in 2016 because they hated Hillary Clinton. I posit that he'd hurt Trump more than help him.

There's some overlap between a Schultz voter and a Biden voter. There's almost zero overlap between a Schultz voter and a Bernie voter. A Schultz candidacy only hurts Democrats if they fall into more Third Way bullshit.

Lightning Knight posted:Donald Trump is MAGA by protecting us from the insidious Canadian aluminum cartels. I'm pretty sure they were additional sanctions related to punishing some Russian oligarch who divested (but not really) thats ostensibly the reason the sanctions were removed, "look, he doesn't own the company anymore so its good!" (Congress: "bullshit, he still indirectly controls the companies"). The Canadian tariff is separate and we hypothetically could decide to have tariffs on Russian steel too. Maybe we do, I don't know.
