Russian nerd, sure, but I wouldn't assume a Russian troll - that account appears to make *many* thousands of edits, mostly (all?) to categorizations. Yeah there's just no explanation for why somebody would vandalize a wikipedia page other than state sponsored "active measures" by the Russian government. It's not like the very forums we're posting on used to be notorious for doing that poo poo all the time.

The russian guy classified him as a "Soldier" not "Canadian Solider", which is quite correct. He seems to like classifying things on Wikipedia, good for him. Then Google got confused and mixed "Canadian" and "Solider" into "Canadian Solider" if you scrolled through the entries deep enough. Calling a guy who was part of a combative force a 'solider' isn't terribly controversial, so it's a pretty weak troll. Attribution in cybersecurity is fundamentally impossible. I could be writing this post from a Russian IP (currently I'm using New York.) And if I were a KGB agent, I probably wouldn't make Wikipedia edits from a naked IP. Not to say that it was or wasn't a Russian influence attempt, but IP tracking is something that laypeople sometimes think is accurate, when it is very not.

People may find this article interesting, although only related in subject: https://wikipedia.fivefilters.org/ Coincidentally Philip Cross waited until 8 hours ago to re-enter the news, using Russian state media: https://www.rt.com/news/450154-rania-khalek-smear-campaign-wikipedia/ From another article: quote:“My view is that Philip Cross probably is a real person, but that he fronts for a group acting under his name. It is undeniably true, in fact the government has boasted, that both the MOD and GCHQ have “cyber-war” ops aiming to defend the “official” narrative against alternative news media, and that is precisely the purpose of the “Philip Cross” operation on Wikipedia. The extreme regularity of output argues against “Philip Cross” being either a one man or volunteer operation. I do not rule out however the possibility he genuinely is just a single extremely obsessed right wing fanatic.” xtal fucked around with this message at 23:07 on Jan 30, 2019 |

Khadr isn't not a Canadian soldier. He was both a soldier, and a Canadian, so I see no understanding of the English language where it's inaccurate to call him a Canadian soldier unless of course you dispute the notion he was a soldier at all. I believe he was a child soldier, thus placing him in the larger category of soldiers overall. He isn't and wasn't a soldier in the Canadian Forces, but that's a separate issue.

Vancouver's socialist Coalition of Progressive Electors councillor Jean Swanson joined with the arch-NIMBY Councillor Hardwick in voting against a motion to support the proposed Skytrain to UBC. That this vote came after an impassioned speech at the public hearing by a UBC area Safeway manager who described how hard it was for her low wage earning workers to commute into work with the existing insufficient bus is incredible. Swanson has betrayed the workers that voted for her and discredited herself. https://twitter.com/fabulavancouver/status/1090786274477203456

I love skytrain and transit systems in general, but it does seem like a hard sell to run one all the way through the endowment lands. Skytrain to Arbutus then bridging the rest of the way with more dedicated buses would still be a huge service improvement.

I tend to agree, but I wonder - my figures are a bit out of date but I think UBC had a 30,000 nighttime population and 120,000 in the day. That's a small city moving in and out of two main and two minor arteries every day and UBC just keeps pouring concrete. Skytrain from my old place near Broadway and Main, rather than standing in the rain watching trolley after trolley go past packed to the gills? The mind boggles!

I'm pretty sure the GS is like that Charlie Smith guy and 10 other people working out of an apartment at this point. On the polling thing, it's hard enough as it is. Zero it down to a single riding and the respective budget you'd allocate for that, you aren't going to get great results. Especially if you're mainly just doing the robocall thing. More and more people are finally learning to never pick up unknown number calls. If you lean too heavy on that method you are going to be overwhelmingly getting only terminally bored retirees answering.

Building the skytrain halfway to UBc is the dumbest loving idea. Build it the whole way and then upzone the poo poo out of that area. Transit needs to connect urban centres, a line the full way would do that, terminating the line at Arbutus does would be awful. I would take the skytrain to my job at UBC if it went all the way; if I had to get off and transfer on to a bus then gently caress that I’m still driving.

Sorry do you mean the forest with three roads, a golf course, and mansions through it currently enjoyed only by wealthy single family homeowners?
