idk where that article got 'rebooted' from, there's no signs it's anything but a normal-rear end sequel

An animated theatrical Batman Beyond movie is reportedly in the works.

https://thegww.com/report-warner-bros-developing-animated-batman-beyond-movie-for-theatrical-release/

quote:

After concept art of an unknown animated Batman movie was posted on r/DCEULeaks, The GWW did some digging and learned that the Warner Animation Group is working on an animated Batman Beyond movie that will be receiving a theatrical release.
Sources tell us that this is DC’s response to Sony’s incredibly successful animated movie ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’. They’re currently targeting a 2022 release but that is not set in stone. A cast and crew have not been announced. SuperBroMovies writer Daniel Ritchman also showed us a slate of when WAG movies will go into production, with a DC one in 2020. It’s likely that this is the 2020 project.

The film will be based on the 90s series of the same name, which saw high schooler Terry McGinnis take up the mantle of Batman under the wing of a retired Bruce Wayne in the year 2039. It ran for 52 episodes before ending in December 2001.
Concept

That actually sounds like a solid way to compete with the Spider-Verse movies.

I don't understand why there is going to be another Suicide Squad in the first place. No one wanted the first one, and no one liked it. Suicide Squad was a god awful movie. While it made a profit, it didn't bring in note worthy box office numbers.

Suicide Squad’s box office numbers were the definition of noteworthy.

That thing stayed in theaters for like two months.

Well no one else even makes sense to return besides maybe Flag and Joker.

That's why I asked because like if they were just casting a new Waller and even a new Deadshot and full on rebooting that would be super weird. But like if they're just gonna pretend the last one didn't happen and only keep the stuff that worked that makes sense.

edit: And yeah, SS might have been a bad movie but Harley was a full on thing. But I assumed she had spunoff to her own thing/Birds of Prey.

People who saw the Birds of Prey teaser and thinks that "WB did not their lesson from Suicide Squad and Aquaman" are hilarious. No, they learned everything from making those two movies (and Wonder Woman), that's why Birds of Prey is happening.

The public did. The same public that eats up most of Marvels poo poo.

In fact, by BO numbers, it would outgross fully half of the MCU, both worldwide and domestically.

The user opinion is very divided according to Metacritic, IMDB, and Rotten Tomatoes. It's not the best comic book movie of all time because it won an academy award, and some people wore costumes from a villain that has always been iconic, that this thread is all of a sudden randomly pretending it to be.

There is no reason to assume any correlation between general audience reaction and self-submitted online user scores. You might as well cite bird entrails.

Nah, those scores provide zero information about general audience reactions. They are more credible than nothing. At best, something might be equally useless.

Like, it could be the case we just don't know what people think. That's actually the default.

The ubiquity of a Halloween costume actually seems like a pretty decent gauge if you're talking about something's cultural impact.

It's also an odd thing to latch onto after a post full of provably wrong statements.

The point is that a director that would even consider putting that in the film is questionable.

Right, but that's on Matthijs van Heijningen, the director who considered including it. Not the who had nothing to do with it but is still blamed by the twitter dipshit.

This is exactly io9's strategy - because Snyder was just a producer on the 2011 version but will be director on the 2019 version, they can label both as "Snyder's Army of the Dead" so they can pin the bullshit of the 2011 director on him, which creates an amazing bizarro world scenario where io9 is accusing Snyder of being a rape-loving creepo despite the rape going away as he took over.

It's perfectly in line with io9's typical MO.

look, it's early, I skimmed the discussion, and I hadn't had my coffee, mea culpa.

I mean, I still stand by it as a general statement that popularity does not denote quality in any way because far too many people think box office records has a correlation with quality,, but that's not really related to the discussion going on here so oops.

It's bizarre stating SS wasn't popular though, considering how batshit craycray people went for Harley. Like, it was so well received it's getting a sequel and a spinoff with BoP (i think it's a spinoff at least)
