Thinking you're 2nd decile is pretty lol but you compare yourself to your peers and from experience, it's easy to feel like like at least half of the assholes around you have bigger houses, nicer cars and go on fancier vacations and so on. Dunno about Australia, but 10th decile here is not private jet territory.

I keep thinking that the relative positions of the numbers and the shading of the mountains have meaning, but they don't. Seems like a lot of work to avoid a straightforward bar graph.

Unless you are on the 9th or 10th you can also pretty much fake or feel like being one, or two deciles higher or lower depending on how much debt your household has. You can't see it, but the rear end in a top hat neighbor with bigger house, nicer car and fancy-rear end vacations might be living way over their income by making stupid amounts of credit card debt. I know that I have exactly 2 mortgages, one for each of the two properties I own, and nothing else. Compared to my peers I live in a shoe box, drive something donated by a wrecking yard, and take vacations by "not going to work".

From a research paper about modelling titanium flow stress. To be fair, they're really just using this to brag about how they've got a pretty good simulation, you're not intended to actually get engineering data from it, but I'm still really a big fan of all the subtly different shades of purple they're using. "No, no, the fuschia square, not the magenta square." Also, what the hell was going on with Ti6Al4V at 800-1050 degrees C and a strain rate of 0.001/s?
